It seems rather strange.

I suspect Germany doesn't celebrate the Nazis coming to power, or the "victories" in France and Poland.

Britain doesn't have a day off to celebrate Cromwell's victory over the Royalists in the English Civil War, or indeed when we got kicked out of America, China and India.

In fact the only recognised holiday we have (though it isn't a paid day off) that comes close is 5th November - but that's more of a novelty thing.

Unified countries don't have a use for holidays that celebrate divisive periods in their history.

PD, for a guy who often likes to discredit any comparison made.... you sure came up with a lame one here.

Now if this were a proposed NATIONAL holiday, you might have a point... but even then it would be weak.

:secret: we aren't a unified country. my eyes opened to that fact back in 2000 when i did a year in a nc based consulting firm, most of my coworkers were southern dudes, the types who hate yankees and still call the civil war the war of northern aggression. total freaks IOW.

aye aye

Driving through the NC swamps there are hundreds of homes that fly the confederate flag instead of the US flag.

In fact, we might all be better off split up. Texas would be the neighborhood bully, of course.

no, Texas would be the village idiot

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

And when he went to chapel at the College of Charleston, everyone stood, turned around, and faced south to pray -- but that was in 1960 or so.
