Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

A Senate subcommittee has approved a bill to require all cities and counties in South Carolina to have a paid holiday for workers on Confederate Memorial Day.

I get a paid holiday celebrating treason against England. We fire rockets and set off explosions to mark the day.

The Irish didn't win either, so we just get drunk! How come the Italians get a paid day off?

COLUMBIA, SC (AP) - A Senate subcommittee has approved a bill to require all cities and counties in South Carolina to have a paid holiday for workers on Confederate Memorial Day.

http://www.wistv.com/Global/story.asp?S=9779308

State workers already get that as a paid holiday -- it was a concession for adding Martin Luther King Jr. Day as a paid holiday for state employees. I doubt this new bill will pass, although last year, the legislature did fail to remove from in front of the capitol (or even amend the plaque on) the statue of "Pitchfork" Ben Tillman, who openly advocated (and likely participated in) the murder of African Americans to prevent them from voting. I love my home state, but the legislature never ceases to baffle me.

Sen. Robert Ford, is the guy I believe behind this.

He is a interesting guy who Happens to be Black.

Note to Northers: many if not most Blacks in the South are not hung up on all things Confederate.

It seems rather strange.

I suspect Germany doesn't celebrate the Nazis coming to power, or the "victories" in France and Poland.

Britain doesn't have a day off to celebrate Cromwell's victory over the Royalists in the English Civil War, or indeed when we got kicked out of America, China and India.

In fact the only recognised holiday we have (though it isn't a paid day off) that comes close is 5th November - but that's more of a novelty thing.

Unified countries don't have a use for holidays that celebrate divisive periods in their history.

:secret: we aren't a unified country. my eyes opened to that fact back in 2000 when i did a year in a nc based consulting firm, most of my coworkers were southern dudes, the types who hate yankees and still call the civil war the war of northern aggression. total freaks IOW.

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.
