What makes you want to bring your fiance to the U.S.... instead of relocating to his/her native country?

(I posted this in the Your New Life in America Forum because I thought it fit there pretty well.. but if you're like me, the K-1 forum is pretty much the only one you check, and seeing as how K-1=you're bringing your fiance to the U.S., it does directly apply to you!)

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Our reasoning has less to do with the countries involved, and more to do with our individual situations.

Initially:

I felt that it was important at this point in my career (3 years out of college) that I have a longer period of experience under my belt before I tried to change jobs - Many jobs in my field require at least 5 if not 10 years of experience unless I want to start at the very bottom again. Nik has all the experience needed for his field, which is also much more pervasive and is thusly more mobile.

Also:

With the above reasoning already worked out, I went and bought a house this fall -- thought I was getting a good deal at the time.........I know I'll get my money back out of it with some patience. I want to stay in it until the market gets on it's feet again, as I fear selling it to move now would result in a loss.

The magic 8 ball says "Ask again later" whenever I try to look beyond this somewhat short term plan. I have to admit to being a bit of a Jane Austen freak and as I was born and have lived in Arizona all of my life, living on a small, rainy island sounds like an exciting adventure to be embarked upon one day.

Honestly, I wonder how many less of these petitions would be clogging up the system if there was no choice to come to America, but the American had to move to where the person lived.

Wild guess - a whole lot, especially from many of the third-world countries (Phillipines/South American/Asia).

Just my opinion, but I suspect many people feel this in their hearts, but will not admit it on the board.

...and neither should you out of respect for all the third fiances or fiancees including me....it doesn't matter their nationality they are in love with an American and so are you....as it stands now the entire world is feeling third world...because we're in a recession...love yourself and others too....this is just my opinion also.

Our reasons are very much like several of the others posted here. I had been living in her country for three years when we met. I spent another year and a half there while we were dating, but ultimately came back to America to study for a Master's degree and earn a higher income.

Now that I am here and almost finished the Master's degree, I still have a two year committment to my employer. That would mean us waiting two more years (it's been nearly three years already) living apart. We have been willing to separate thus far, but we're ready to be together again, so she's coming here.

We may return to live part or full time in Thailand later but for now USA!

Well, if there were no choice, there would be NONE of "these petitions." Which also means neither would you and your spouse have had the option to file your petition, although you obviously found enough personal reasons to justify doing so.

Anyway, I was planning on moving down there this summer but I have student loans that would not be able to be paid on Guatemala income. While $85/month is not that much according to American standards, just to pay that one payment would take a week of working. Also, he lost his job just prior to filing and I am about to get tenured at my job as a teacher, so it is best for us (for right now). I am TOTALLY not opposed to moving down there in the future, although dealing with USCIS for this visa does not make me want to go through the hassle of filing again for a tourist visa in the future. I guess we would have to move only after naturalization so he could come and go as he pleases.

My partner is starting his Ph. D program this fall and is thoroughly settled with car ownership, debt, credit cards etc etc. He also has a very large family. I don't have anything tying me to Australia except for my family, which is small, so its easier for me to uproot. I also have half my bachelors degree done here in the US so I want to complete it here.

I still miss Australia and my family like a crazy woman

Did you mean by that that not many americans would have the courage to move out of america, even if they are in love and so they'd give up on the relationship instead of moving?

Otherwise : He wants me to go there because he know how much I love 24h grocery stores and crazy all you can eat buffets :D

Better opportunities for wifey in her home country but we decided better opportunities for BOTH here, which I believe is what marriage is all about anyways.

We have left open the option for going back sometime in the future, but no immediate plans. I would like to retire in her home country (Brazil).

Echo this reply, but replace Brazil with Jamaica and switch the genders.
