What made you decide to bring your fiance/spouse/etc. to the U.S. instead of relocating to his/her native country?

We did both! He lived in my country first and didn't like it and then we moved to the US. I am British.

Let me guess, he didn't like the plumbing in Lefkosia?

(Not to say its better in Kenya)

Hmmm well he's been trying to get a job in what he studied (journalism) in his country and even where I was born and still no luck. So for doing something he dislikes and get a lousy salary he'll rather come here and make a little bit more, plus I have a good job, a house and a life here. His parents got divorced when he was like 14 and since then he's been living with different family membersm which suck cause he feels like he is disturbing them. All this becuase his parents got new partners that have kids of their own, and of course don't get along with him.

So it really sucks when parents divorce, that only hurts the kids.

Education.

My SO was planning to come here to go to graduate school before we met. I am still contemplating going back to school.

Plus, I make more at my job than he did, and I was more established here than he was there.

We plan on doing a 50/50 split between the 2 countries later since we both have family in both places :)

Freedom was the biggest thing.

We lived in both countries and decided to go back to the US because the social structure in the US is better suited for us.

Of course, we will miss a lot of good things in Japan like financial stability and welfare, but we are sure we won't regret our decision.

Why? Obama!

This country is going to turn around from the worst days in it history during the Bush administration, and people here will be free again (anyone heard of the Patriot Act?), education will be better (see yesterday's news), low-cost health coverage will be available to all (what? Government-run health-care, what a concept!), the world will love us instead of hate us (Irak waar debacle... "mission accomplished", when was that again?), banks & insurance companies & oil companies will be be run by honest CEO's not making millions of $ when their company goes down the drain, etc... etc... etc...

Am I dreaming? Well, maybe a little, but I hope to see the day when America will love and cherish and help its own people more than it has been hating others.

Like the stock market, it can't get worse... can it? ;)

Well I am an ICU nurse here and that profession has so far been totally recession proof. My husband is a teacher back in Egypt. He doesn't earn much and can actually make a decent living here in the USA teaching. I also have kids and don't want to uproot them. Egypt may be an option for retirement and I am going to pursue dual citizenship.

I personally would rather struggle to make ends meet in the US, than live in a council house on the North Peckham Eastate. But that's me......

Why? Because the streets here are paved with gold?

I dunno. I'm not trying to pick a fight at all. And I'm not trying to be 'right'.

I guess I'm just one of those 'anamoly' Americans who loves my country but doesn't necessarily think everything about it is 'the best'. And here's the odd thing - I was raised in a time when that was what we were taught.

I often tell the story of walking around the UK with the strangest thoughts running through my head. My 'programming' was kicking in and (even though I consider myself to be somewhat enlightened) I still was a little amazed that people were living as well as they do in America. Odd.

Thing is, there are a LOT of Americans who really do think that no where else on earth do people live as well as we do. And I kind of think the rest of the world believes it too.

You may not mean to pick a fight but that attitude is the kind that annoys the many Brits.

It's probably odd because many Americans have never been out of their own state, nevermind their own country so they wouldn't have a clue what it's like to live in another country!

On the other side of the coin, my fiance doen't like it in England. He doesn't like the customer service & I tend to agree that the service in restaurants, shops etc is nowhere near as good as US. He doesn't like the weather & how we all live so close together! lol

I am british and love my country for many reasons. I am a proud brit and I cling to my identity in that respect. However I love it here in New York. We decided to do this leg of the journey first for several reasons: 1) I am perhaps the stronger and more adaptable personality. It is easier for a brit to adapt here because we are immersed in US culture through TV, movies and music. 2) Cost of living in UK is crazy. 3) My wife works for a company doing something she loves, I was not. The industry she works in is not common in the UK so would find it hard to find a job she loves as much.

We will move to england at some point, now really is not a good time. My wife wants to live there and understand where I come from. Immigration to the US is tougher and more bureaucratic so it was also a case of lets get the hard part out of the way while we are young, patient and resilient. Once we have been married for four years it becomes very easy for us to go the other way, here that is not the case. You still have to jump through hoops and provide lots of money and forms and evidence.

K-1 Visa Journey

04/20/2006 - file our I-129f.

09/14/2006 - US Embassy interview. Ask Lauren to marry me again, just to make sure. Says Yes. Phew!

10/02/2006 - Fly to New York, EAD at JFK, I'm in!!

10/14/2006 - Married! The perfect wedding day.

AOS Journey

10/23/2006 - AOS and EAD filed

05/29/2007 - RFE (lost medical)

08/02/2007 - RFE received back at CSC

08/10/2007 - Card Production ordered

08/17/2007 - Green Card Arrives

Removing Conditions

05/08/2009 - I-751 Mailed

05/13/2009 - NOA1

06/12/2009 - Biometrics Appointment

09/24/2009 - Approved (twice)

10/10/2009 - Card Production Ordered

10/13/2009 - Card Production Ordered (Again?)

10/19/2009 - Green Card Received (Dated 10/13/19)

I would love to up and move to Morocco however I have 3 children here and I dont think I would have any true peace or happiness without being near them in order to see them and care for them when they need me, which is pretty much for the rest of their lives.

Secondly, there is really no work there for him AT ALL, add that to the fact that there is almost definitely no work there for me and I dont speak the language....this doesnt make for a prosperous outlook.

:(

we will visit as much as possible and possibly when my youngest is like 18 or 20, in say 9 to 11 years...HA! we can move there for a bit.

Inability to find equivalent employment there. Also language would initially be a problem (for me).

I LOVE the pictures in your signature, especially the one with the family watching you two kiss (except for the boy looking away, lol).

Our situation is probably not typical of the members here, because my husband had previously lived in the U.S. for several years, studying and working here. By the time he moved to the U.S. permanently on the fiance visa, he was very familiar with U.S. culture, fluent in English, and knew & loved my hometown of NYC. I on the other hand would have a much, much harder time adjusting to life in the Philippines, especially since I don't speak Tagalog. On top of that, we both have far better job opportunities in the U.S. So this was a very easy decision!

:ot: Speaking of Tagalog, I found out that the language spoken by the Sims was based on Tagalog and a Ukrainian language.

There is no money in Morocco, to support my standard of living. I would never say never. Only ALLAH knows my today and tomorrow. So INSHALLAH my husband and I will be together one way or another.

I will Love my husband always and forever. We may have been delayed but I have the faith that we will be together.

My USC husband is a Registered nurse/Special procedures tech. and his life is here in America, there is no way that he will give up his career and live in Philippines and get paid in Pesos LOL! The healthcare system here is far better of than in Philippines and that is very important to us especially now that we already have a child.Maybe in the future we can talk about retiring in Philippines...
