What made you decide to bring your fiance/spouse/etc. to the U.S. instead of relocating to his/her native country?

I was already living in the US and hubby doesn't speak good enough French.

He also has student loans so we want to get that paid off before moving over there. It just makes more financial sense (for now, at least).

AOS Approved on 10-17-08 (details in profile)

Removal of Conditions on 07-19-10

In this tedious process, we tend to forget that this is all worth it.

I love my hubby beyond anything in this world.

my habibi was so eager to move overseas after his visit to where iam currently staying (uae) but we talked good about it and gave him pros and cons having lived most of my adultlife in another country. "rootless" so to speak....and so we read on vj..... considered his kids too hence decided that its best that he stays in US and i follow him instead. However we keep the possibilities of maybe moving to ph someday...maybe a year or 2 ...will see how it goes. Meantime we are settled at this painful process! Job and moneywise, theres none in ph too. UAE is only temporary and i did tell him am sick of temporary life abroad- i want and need a home (L)

I moved to the US because he has a well-paying job he'd been at for 2 years at the time. I, on the other hand, had just graduated uni and had basically no work experience.

I'm hoping we can go back to the UK in 5 years or so. I know he'd rather have moved over there. He is not a fan of the US. I like it fine here and I don't miss my country, I just miss my family. And the weather here blows.... stupid humidity in the summer and 15 degrees F in the winter?? I'd actually take the rain in the UK just for the mild temps.

Plus getting a full time, well paying job here is IMPOSSIBLE and extremely frustrating. Though that's probably not limited to Dayton...

there are several reasons why we chose for her to come to the states instead of living in her country. First my health makes it much better for us in the states because i am medically retired due to 2 heart attacks and we have my children and grandchildren in the states that my wife is very excited to become a part of their lives. Also my mother is older and my wife wanted to meet her new mother-in-law and my brothers and sisters.

I will talk for my husband - He is National Guard and so I had to move here, besides he has a government job with very good benefits. India, he would hv had limited options because of language problem. Selling the house, getting the dogs to India and the heat and humidity during summer are other reasons.

My husband speaks fluent English while I can't speak Dutch, at all. I can understand a few words but not enough to make a living there. I have a stable, well paying job that isn't likely to be cut even with a bad economy, and my husband was/still is a student so he has no income.

Speaking for my husband here--------like many others its all about job and finances. He will never earn the same wages in India as he earns here, plus there is the language barrier. He can't speak Hindi at all.

I'm guessing she is...

what makes you so flabbergasted at such a statement? parts - in fact most, if not all - of the UK are extremely expensive, compared to here; even after more than eight months I still catch myself thinking or saying 'wow, that's so cheap!' about all sorts of everyday things

let alone things like housing...

I want to go back to the UK as soon as it's feasible, but certainly financially it's making a lot of sense for us to be in the US (although that's not the reason we're here, and I wouldn't let it stop me going back)

The Very Secret Diary of Legolas Son of Weenus - by Cassandra Claire

Day One: Went to Council of Elrond. Was prettiest person there. Agreed to follow some tiny little man to Mordor to throw ring into volcano. Very important mission - gold ring so tacky.

Day Six: Far too dark in Mines of Moria to brush hair properly. Am very afraid I am developing a tangle.

Orcs so silly.

Still the prettiest.

Day 35: Boromir dead. Very messy death, most unnecessary. Did get kissed by Aragorn as he expired. Does a guy have to get shot full of arrows around here to get any action? Boromir definitely not prettier than me. Cannot understand it. Am feeling a pout coming on.

Frodo off to Mordor with Sam. Tiny little men caring about each other, rather cute really.

Am quite sure Gimli fancies me. So unfair. He is waist height, so can see advantages there, but chunky braids and big helmet most off-putting. Foresee dark times ahead, very dark times.

We met while I was working in Brazil, so my hubby expected I'd be staying there and I really considered it. But in the end I knew I had a better job in the U.S., some debt that's easier to pay as I earn in dollars, and I thought my husband would have a better life here. I was right. I initially asked him to try living in the U.S. for a year since I was in Brazil for a year, if he didn't like it we could move back to Brazil. He's happy here.

I'm now in grad school, working the same job, and hubby is learning English. He's going to soon go back to school here and we're trying to work hard.

However, I'd really like to move back to Brazil when I finish my MA and should be able to make more money there once I'm done with my degree. By then hubby will know English well and will have work experience in the U.S., along with his studies. We're going to try and save money to take w/ us while paying off debt here over the next couple of years.

11/2004 - Met in Brazil

09/2006 - Apply for K1

03/2007 - K1 approved

04/2007 - Apply for AOS & EAD

07/2007 - EAD approved

01/2008 - Conditional Residency approved

11/2009 - Apply to remove conditions

02/2010 - Permanent Residency approved

11/2010 - Apply for Citizenship

03/2011 - Citizenship approved

07/2011 - Moved back to Brazil

Yes, we will be a lot better off financially in the US.

He owned a house in the US, had a very well paying, secure job that he had had for a number of years and was expecting to retire within 5 or 6 years of our marriage (now postponed due to his 401k becoming a 201k!). I lived in rental housing, and had a moderate paying job that would probably end within 2 or 3 years when my employer retired. He could probably get good work in Canada but it seemed impractical to exchange a bird in the hand for a bird in the bush. Besides - I was tired of winter weather and was happy to move South. We are now physically located equi-distant from his family in Texas and mine in Ontario.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

I am the USC but we want to be here because I have a well paying job and Nigeria lacks a lot of the basics. I have a grandchild with disabilities that stays with me much of the time for the safety of his siblings. But because he will have responsibilities in his village so we are going to build a place there that will have little things that will make staying there much nicer. Until my grandson is older we will spend most of the year here and go there for visits. Once my grandson is on his own and I retire we will probably move there for most of the year instead of being here.
