I will attempt to answer for my USC hubby :)

He likes it here in my country, but we thought since he just has one year job experience (it was less than a year when we filed) he will have a tough time getting into entry level job here coz there's tonnes of IT engineers graduating every year. Even if he does get a job, he will only get a local pay level which will be enough to live comfy life, but wont be enough to pay for his student loan and whatnots back in the US as well as maintain a household here. Well, maybe just enough, but we'd have to live at my parents' forever! Unless of course he has years of experience in a specialised field. Thats a different story :)

I read that 90% of all accidents occur within 10 miles of home, so I wanted to get her away from there as soon as possible, si man. :)

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

We did both.

When we first decided to get married, I didn't want to leave my country (Ireland), because I like it a lot and also because we were planning on children, and the medical care is cheaper there and there is 26 weeks paid maternity leave. So he came over to Dublin to live. Once we had the twins, we decided it would be better to move to the USA as we felt it would be a better place for the kids to grow up, it is more aligned with our religious and moral values. Plus we could afford a four bedroom house here with the price we got for one one bedroom flat in Dublin.

Bye: Penguin

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.

I will answer for my USC fiance. He's military so we have to go to the US. I go where he goes. If he wasn't military we would probably still go to the US. He hates the UK weather, it's too expensive to live here, and I'm starting to dislike it here too (though I will miss it).

For us it is the farm. Its kind of hard to move. Not that I haven't suggested farms in other locations too.

I moved to Germany first and we got married there, because it made far more sense at the time. For me to immigrate to Germany was far, far less hassle than it was for me to bring my husband over here on a K-1.

As soon as Germany outlived its usefulness and immigration to the US became easier (DCF->IR-1), we moved back to the US.

She's got kids, so that was always gonna be that really. And tbf, I prefer the lifestyle over there, although I will miss Birmingham (much more so than anywhere else I've lived, actually).

There would be to much pressure on me to support Dave in this country as he is a carpenter and at the moment his industry is not exactly thriving. It's so expensive here, and even though I have a good job, I couldnt support both of us.

Over there we have a fighting chance. We could both have very poorly paid jobs and survive far better than on one well paid job here.

And also....

The weather here is pants. The only things i'll miss here are my friends and family and galaxy chocolate.

In our case, the reasons are many, and some of them have already been mentioned by the previous posters. My husband doesn't speak Italian, and even if he did, Italy's job market is not one of the best. He has a good job here, and good career prospects with the company he's with. Moreover, he has three children from a previous marriage, and I didn't want him to burn his bridges. I, on the other hand, in spite of having a bulletproof gov't job in Italy, was not happy at all with it, and would eventually have had to choose a posting abroad anyway in order to support my husband and possibly his kids. Life in Italy has become more and more expensive over the past few years, and the wages haven't followed suit.

I also had some more personal reasons for leaving - wanting to turn a new page in my life, and starting over, even at my age (48). My parents are both dead, and I have very little family left. I've lost a lot in the past few years, and wanted a new start for both of us.
