I think they're all overrated.

The Stand is one of the greatest pieces of contemporary literature written IMHO. He hasn't topped that one and probably never will.

That was my opinion until I read the Dark Tower Series last year. Read those, they are fantastic.

Didn't really like that series. The Stand just hit a nerve with me. So where would you go, Vegas or Boulder?

omg.yahoo.com?

i wish i hadn't just found out that existed.

celebrity gossip really is the lowest common denominator..pure trash.

You don't believe it?

Why would I not believe it?

I was expressing disappointment that yahoo had a domain (omg.yahoo.com) dedicated to celebrity news.

As for the news itself, I don't care. I've read The Stand, I liked it but literature? I don't know about that, I'm not exactly an expert on that sorta thing :)

OMG....no way! :o

:jest:

I just like to see writers criticize each other's work.

It! was cool - but I don't really like King's writing style. If anything I prefer his short stories to his novels.

Different Seasons was pretty good. 3/4 were made into to movies, which really isn't saying much I guess. Shawshank was great though. Most people don't realize that's King's story.

J.K. Rowling isn't that great a writer either. Neither is King (by his own admission). They're both great storytellers, however, and that's what sells the books.

He's like the Steven Spielberg of fiction.

At least he writes his own stuff (unlike James Patterson)

That's actually the most difficult thing. There are plenty of good writers who just aren't able to come to grips with storycraft.

Good distinction. :)

WORD.

Neither of the 3 is a GREAT writer. And I love HP as much as anyone. But really. No Cela, Garcia Marquez, McMaster Bujold at all.

So Steven Spielberg's work is fact?

I might be going out on a limb here - but I really don't think that those people who paid money to see his movies made up the experience :P

I am a avid reader, and King is one of my favorite writers. I also am a fan of Steinbeck, I love to read and King is a great read always. He has a way of weaving a story and making it interesting. I read the Twilight series, and it was ok, but it is for teens and young adults, and I am a little older than that. Any book that gets people reading is always a good thing. Most folks that don't like King really have never read him, or just seen the movies and base their judgment on that. Folks that read a lot usually love King.
