No it wont make any difference to getting credit or renting a apartment. It is there to indicate to an employer that you need to have a valid EAD to be able to work.

Once you have been approved for a Greencard you can go back to the SSA and have that removed.

Can't really say it isn't going to cause a problem, since some people don't understand the reason for the restriction only being for employment. That's one reason to get the unrestricted card as soon as you are eligible.

I have one of the restricted SSCards, Ive had it for about 2 months. Yessterday i tried to apply for my own line for a cell phone and got denied, " my social is too new and i have no credit". Have you guys been able to get an apartment? I was planning on moving into one by the end of the month. IDK if having this social will restrict me from getting one. any advice?

I was told never to show your ss card to anyone. They only ever need the number

So in theory, an employer/bank/whoever will never know about the addendum.

I'm not suggesting this to get around illegal working, just suggesting that there's no reason for a bank or non employer to even need to know about your work restrictions.

Well as far as your SSN being new, SSA puts out just about every month a High Group list that shows the highest Group number that has been assigned within each SSN Area. I suspect that your SSN is from a Group that just started to be assigned and isn't on the current list or they are using an old list.

Area Group Serial (AAA-GG-SSSS)

Except that any employer in the US has to verify employment eligibility through submission of the file I-9 in which case you would trigger a red flag. They even have an online system for businesses to do that now :) So no chance to get around.

If you are talking about working being paid in cash only, that's a different story...

Ok, I have a question... I have the same sentence on my SS card "Valid for work only with DHS authorization".

But on my I-94 stamped and signed by a DHS officer when I entered the US I have this stamp : Employement authorized until 16 Aug 2009.

So does that mean that I have the DHS authorization ?

Yes, that's exactly what you have.
