Seriously - does't Ratzinger look EXACTLY Like Palpatine??? what are the freaking odds????

Would you like that as an expected mean or an actual concrete value?

It was because he was seen as a safe choice.

Word from the inside is that he was a choice based on central dogma rather than appeasing social movements- as just and (ironically) Christian as they may be.

They probably wouldn't have selected Jesus if he were a Cardinal either - too radical. How ironic.

Probably. By some standards Jesus would be labeled as a liberal and a commie and that would be the end of it.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Or, perhaps they were concerned about the direction John Paul II took the Church, away from Eurocentrism, and toward Liberation Theology. Having an activist, socially conscious leader was unsettling to the traditional European Church.

Benedict is reassuring to those wanting a more conservative, traditional role for the Pope in world afffairs: Someone who is not going to rattle the markets. Someone to pull back the rogue elements in South America and Western Pacific. Plus, someone to bring the Americans back into the fold.

Too late!

What is sad in all this is that these arguments are not even for moral reasons as they claim to be, but for political reasons. everything is about politics and lobby. those who have money and influence have power to write history too, to silence those who opose, etc. and saddly, church has always been a political player.

I am not saying there was no genocide, or that the deniar was right, but I believe in freedom of speech. and all this protest, gone as high as the Pope position being questioned, there r many strings behind the scenes.

and all this recognition mania. if things happen in hisory, and u r interested to know, there r infinite sources to find out the truth. so if I'd be a kid in a turkish school I'd learn there was no armenian genocide, I'd never hear about it. this means it didn't happen? all I'd have to do would be to read other sources. not recognitions or denials make history, history happened and is there for those who want to look into it.

and btw, besides their lobby to silence anyone who'd minimize the jewish holochaust, jews also lobby against armenian genocide recognition. quite odd for someone who cares so much about moral and justice.

enjoy life,

Andreea

Most seminarian clergy take a course call "Apologetics", which mean almost exactly how it sounds. All religons have history, and in order to answer questions of faith, the clergyman must be schooled in history as well, the good, and the bad.

I would think his support of Solidarity would be a clue, as were his trips to Latin America, and the Philippines. He was a common man, not a member of the literati.

John Paul II was opposed to the more radical proponents of Liberation Theology, but he did support basic tenets of land reform and workers rights.
