Essentially yes - that's exactly what Holocaust deniers promote.

The level of self-deception that goes on with that stuff is astounding.

For most deniers, there's no self-deception involved. They know the holocaust happened, but denial fits their social and political aims, so that's what they do. They're not deceiving themselves, just anyone who will listen to them.

The thing I object to is this "special" place the Jewish holocaust seems to get.

Would anyone have kicked this guy out of his position in the Church (not to mention being kicked out of The Church its self) had he denied that the numbers claimed for the Ukrainian holocaust are accurate (or substitute any holocaust you like).

It would seem to me every free-speak lover would be bothered by the effort to silence people who hold unpopular opinions... though they be wrong.

If I am reading this correct, this guy was only admitted back into the church, not in the priesthood or in any teaching capacity.

So whats the big deal?

Ironically,

How is it this guy got excommunicated for questioning parts of history yet they have allowed Catholic Politicians whose direct actions make legal, the over one million abortions a year in the USA alone?

Again the problem I have is the, singular focus on one holocaust.

Actually, I misrepresented Ratzinger's affiliation with the Nazi Party. From Wikipedia:

Following his fourteenth birthday in 1941, Ratzinger was enrolled in the Hitler Youth, as membership was required for all 14-year old German boys after December 1939[7], but was an unenthusiastic member and refused to attend meetings.[8]His father was a bitter enemy of Nazism, believing it conflicted with the Catholic faith, according to biographer John L. Allen, Jr. In 1941, one of Ratzinger's cousins, a 14-year-old boy with Down syndrome, was killed by the Nazi regime in its campaign of eugenics.[9] In 1943 while still in seminary, he was drafted at age 16 into the German anti-aircraft corps. Ratzinger then trained in the German infantry, but a subsequent illness precluded him from the usual rigours of military duty. As the Allied front drew closer to his post in 1945, he deserted back to his family's home in Traunstein after his unit had ceased to exist, just as American troops established their headquarters in the Ratzinger household. As a German soldier, he was put in a POW camp but was released a few months later at the end of the War in summer 1945.

Sorry about that.

you just now finding all that out?

while some may find it easy to rant on about oh he was a nazi yada yada, what's important to remember is your first sentence in the above from wiki: that everyone had to join at a certain age after a certain date.

Danno, genocide and holocaust are not interchangeable.

One would hope that any person who denied documented cases of genocide would be treated equally. I don't know that they are not.

However, I can't argue for the catholic church, nor any church because religion doesn't mean anything to me, it's just too dependent on belief in things that to me are totally unbelievable and often prejudiced and divisive.

That being said, there is no place for an equivocal opinion on the actions of the Nazi's and their attempts to annihilate the Jews, homosexuals, and gypsies.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Did they really try to annihilate gays though? Geez... makes them sound like some neo-con freaks I read here sometimes.

That said... the Nazis had genocide in goal...

I don't have other sources at hand, wikki will do at a pinch:

Imagine that... from that wiki:

Nazism declared itself incompatible with homosexuality, because gays did not reproduce and perpetuate the master race.

Sounds like someone's biologically irrelevant argument against homosexual marriage here in OT. Can't peg who it was though.

Ratzinger svcks. Period.

HAL 9000 thinks you should do the SNL Shinead O'Connor Pope thing here. Or that Palpatine pic. Just to tick Magenta off...

Perhaps that's one reason Danno thinks the world pays too much heed to the Nazi holocaust. It's so unfair!
