Hello everyone,

I just had a question about the police certificates u need for the K1:

I do have my German police certificate, but the Instruction Form says u need a certificate "from all other countries where the applicant has resided for at least one year." (Additional to the German one)

I was an Au Pair for 1 year in the States, does that mean I also need a police certificate from the States now??? And how do I get that??

Thanks for ur time and I appreciate ur help!

NO the USA is an exception to that rule, the name checks by USCIS, NVC, and Consulate will take care of that.

Note: Present and former residents of the United States should NOT obtain any police certificates covering their residence in the U.S.

I'd also like to say thank you very much for that answer (I had that question too)!

I've been freaking out trying to figure out how to get a police record for my finacee (seems like they want you to show up in person and have your fingerprints taken). And she resided in two different states during the time she was here. The New Jersey one would have been easy enough to get, but the one from Texas would have been a problem.

Timeline:

11/05/07 - Met Online

11/17/07 - First Date (Day after my birthday...went really well!)

03/24/08 - J1 Visa Expired...She had to go back to Thailand

04/24/08 - First Trip to Thailand (Chaing Mai) to met her Family

05/01/08 - Got Engaged after Doing some Convincing with her Family

i was also a previous J1 visa holder stayed in maryland for 18 months. i called the uscis and spoke to somebody there...my concern was if i really need a police clearance and the person told me that i do need one. I was able to get a police clearance from maryland even if i am already back in the Philippines what i did was i sent my fingerprints which i got from the NBI and had it certified through the department of foreign affairs here in the philippines (phil. government agencies) i sent the certified fingerprints, copy of my maryland driver's license and an authorization letter to my fiance and he personally went to the CJIS Central Repositor to apply for my police clearance. After 2 weeks my fiance got a copy of my police clearance from the state of Maryland.

I also wasn't sure if it was really necessary to get this police clearance from the state of Maryland but since there was a possible way to get it i didn't want any problems during my interview.

i used this sites to get my police clearance maybe you can just search for the state where your SO stayed during their training.
