Hi everyone! My first post! :)

I filed vawa in March 2009 and received prima facie response within a few weeks.

I don't particularly want to get into the details of how I found myself in such a compromising position for now since it still pains me to think of my experiences.

My question is more about the practicality of having to wait for quite a long time before any decision is made. Am I to stop working altogether? What about paying the bills? I have a PhD in biophysics/biochemistry and have enjoyed a successful career so far. I'm still working through the pending I-130 petition I filed with my soon-to-be ex-husband last October.

Is it really that blatant as sit-and-wait?

I have been working. I also enrolled in graduate school and finished 1 year! About to start my second year of grad school. It's at least a 12 month wait. Keeping busy makes the time fly.

My status was updated in April 21st 09. I haven't heard anything since. Nothing in the mail yet. I think I'll probably be getting an RFE. If it was an approval, I would have received an email already. But I welcome an RFE. But I sent all the evidence the first time round so I don't know how this will work.

How though? Are you still in status?! MY H1-B expired at the end of December. I'm looking at jobs in other areas and am concerned I won't be able to take any until this turmoil is finished. Those thoughts usually spin me around for a bit! :)

This is where you should go

https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/jsps/selectusertype.jsp

on the left hand menu, there is an option to log in. Once you log in, you will notice that your case will not be on the portfolio, follow the instructions on how to create a portfolio. Basically, you type in the EAC number and then it will give you details on when it was last updated.

Yup that's what I have, I just checked mine out and said it was last updated 02-24-2008

I found that the website isn't necessarily accurate. I have already received my advanced parole but the website states it's still pending.

I just kept my (old) job. So yeah I guess one could argue that I am working without authorization. But it's never come up. I don't know how everyone else survives while waiting for VAWA. I know I could apply for food stamps using my prima facie but where would I live? I gotta pay rent!

I'm curious about everyone else... lostnnj, carla, ghanamade, hanah, mascheba..... how did y'all survive?

Currently live with family, we're very close and extremely understanding so there's never a burden.

Also just got my prima facie extended until 1st November, 2009, doesn't show my case was touched on CRIS system.

Spoke to my attorney today, said we should send in some additional evidence that way we have a less chance of getting RFE and more an approval since the case has been pending for so long

The processing dates are out. As of March 31st, Vermont service center was adjudicating cases with receipt date of March 25th.

Hmmm... to be honest, I don't believe these dates anymore.

Yahya, I agree with you about keeping in touch and keeping each other updated.

Ghanamade, how long did it take for you to receive your advance parole document?
