My wife just submitted a notary letter from me and the proof of airline purchases after the interview on 1/20 in Vietnam but still ended up with a blue slip. The blue slip did not say anything except asking her to wait. We are deeply disappointed and sad. Can anyone please tell me what to expect next?

Here is our time line.

Met in 4/17/07

2nd trip to Vietnam 9/07

3rd trip 4/17/08 to get Married

5/14/07 File I-130

1/20/09 Interview - Received Blue Slip asking for My letters and proof of Plan purchases

2/02/09 Submitted additional documents - Another Blue Slip which tell her to wait...

Please shed some light here and we are feeling so desperate...

You can send letter to the Senators of your local state to ask for help. You should prepare all evidences to show to them. By this way, the US Consulate will answer you sooner. I don't know if the result will be better or worse but at least they will answer you quickly, you don't need to waste time to wait for the same answer with a longer period of time.

Good God. It seems like you would be good with 3 trips and a marriage. One of 2 things will happen. They are either going to approve it or send it back to the States. If it were me I would get Marc Ellis involved. He is an American attorney in Saigon. There is no guarantee he can help, but I've already retained him, as have many other people on this site. Here is his email:

Ditto. Some Senators are better than others when it comes to getting results, or even acknowledging you inquiry. I wouldn't wait on this. Do what you can now, which isn't really a whole lot. You're at their mercy.

I'm playing the waiting game with the Consulate also. There really isn't much you can do besides wait. You can contact your Congress person, but most of the time they will only monitor the status of the case.

ME would be your best bet if you can afford an attorney.

We got our second blue slip on Oct 15 2008 and we are still waiting. That is WITH ME as our lawyer. So far he has been able to do absoulty nothing for us. He even got a bit rude in a phone call when I asked if there was anything he could do. He will not even make a phone call. I am not so sure that ME will be able to help if you are already at this point. The best thing to do with that money would be to go for another visit. At least you will have been with your wife while you wait. There is another among us who is in the same boat as we are and he has been waiting for about 6 months for a decision by now. ME says there is some kind of "writ" that will force the embassy to make a decision. It could be good or bad but they would be compelled by the court to make a decision. Now I have thought about this but then I think, if I were the person making a decison and I was force by a court to do it because someone was not willing to wait their turn, then I would just say no and send the case back. I am sure there are people who would do that just to make you wait even longer.

Again, my thoughts are to save your money and just make another trip. I have seen many people say they have gotten there congressmen or senators involved and nothing has ever come of it. But, who knows you may be the first that says anything positive about their help. I do not think it will hurt. Either way you, we are at their mercy.

As Xuan and I like to say.... STUPID embassy

I was just thinking about you today Jack. Sorry to hear that you're still in AR hell.

Ellis can be quirky. I noticed that when we met with him. He told me point blank that the odds were around 50/50 though. He didn't pull any punches and I respect that. I'd be irritated if I were you at this point as well though. He probably still remains the best representation on the ground there..

I agree with your statement on the Senators. There was one who had his Senator (Chuck Hagel http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chuck_Hagel ) send a letter to them with the K-1 packet. They floated right through. I have noticed other members in O/T that have sung the praises of theirs, but have yet to see one in our group do that.

Hang in there big guy.

It took me over 6 months from AR to pink, even with MEs help. These things take time and I have to agree with Joe. ME has a good rep because of his results. I've found him to be extremely competent and knowledgable and wouldn't hesitate to use him again. Having said this, he isn't a 'fix-all' solution, nothing is, and chances are, if your relationship is solid, you will get the visa. Time is the biggest problem in this system as it takes forever to get info or results!

I am in a similar situation. My fiance's interview was Jan 13, we resubmitted airline proof of purchase and notorized timeline on January 20. She was told that she did not need to return to the embassy and that we would have an answer in 5 business days. I even sent an email to the embassy this past Sunday 2/1 asking for a status update. WE ARE STILL WAITING.
