I bought one yesterday and it appears to be a heck of a deal for $348. If anyone needs a basic laptop this appears to be a good choice. I went to 2 different Wal Marts in California and both had them. It doesn't appear to be available online. The only reason I bought it was because I thought mine had died. Turns out it was just the power pack. Now I'm struggling with whether I should return it!

# CPU : AMD Athlon 2650e (1.60 GHz) * This concerned me. It's not dual core, but it doesn't appear to matter for my use.

# LCD : 15.4" WXGA Acer CrystalBrite display

# MEMORY : 3 GB DDR2 RAM

# HDD : 160 GB

# ODD : DVD Super Multi Double Layer

# MODEM : NONE

# LAN : 10/100 Base T

# WIRELESS LAN : 802.11 b/g WLAN

# SOFTLOAD : Windows Vista Home Basic

Thanks for the info. My husband has been looking around for a good priced laptop.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

No problem. I have a Acer Aspire 4520 that is 14 months old and the only things that have went wrong are the integrated webcam, the power pack and Vista issues. I use this thing about 3 times the normal rate though. I saw a post online that said some Wal Marts are charging $380.

was that after a rebate?

No. $378 out the door (California needs money). They offered a 2 year warrant for $60. You have the option of purchasing that later if you choose. You also have 15 days to return it if you choose.

Oh. The obvious drawbacks I have spotted are:

1.) No modem.

2.) Only 2 USB ports.

I don't think my husband will like that, but I will pass this info on to him tonite, for sure.

I've got an Aspire that's almost three years old. Works fine for email and light gaming.

Main thing I'd look for performance-wise in a laptop nowadays is RAM and HD. That one has plenty of both. Do you really need NVidia overclocked graphics on a laptop?

That looks like a good deal.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."
