As unemployment rises, Uncle Sam has jobs

While the nation's 11 million unemployed and the millions more who fear losing their jobs may feel Washington should streamline too, economists say a strong federal work force is key to economic recovery. Were President Barack Obama to put any of the nearly 2 million federal civil servants out in the street in the middle of the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression, the consequences could be dire.

"Federal belt-tightening would worsen the problem right now," said Kevin Hassett, director of economic policy studies at the American Enterprise Institute, a conservative think tank. "Most economists agree that the federal government is a built-in stabilizer," said Hassett, a former adviser to GOP presidential campaigns.

Well it all needs Citizens and not permanent residents or EAD holders, thus the huge mass of PRs and EAD holders are still in dark. Not sure how it affects others, but it certainly gets my husband demotivated in this country. Hope he is gonna extend the same for all. Alas

Well it all needs Citizens and not permanent residents or EAD holders, thus the huge mass of PRs and EAD holders are still in dark. Not sure how it affects others, but it certainly gets my husband demotivated in this country. Hope he is gonna extend the same for all. Alas

Depending on the federal government to get you a job is a mistake. Far more jobs are in the private sector and waiting for Uncle Sam to help out is a long wait.

My husband was pretty bummed when he found this out as well. Because in his niche of choice (meteorology - particularly programming and other technical aspects) there *are* more gubberment than civillian jobs.

Now he's doing programming/engineering for a GPS maker.

most government jobs (government service, or GS) require a security clearance, and guess what - only a usc can hold a security clearance.
