Financial Crisis and Global warming, a Hoax?

Anyone recall talk about Global warming two years ago? I don't, but that is all about one can hear on talk shows.

What about a financial crisis, 6-8 months ago? Anybody hear anything about that before that time? Use to be if a bank was even a penny off, would spend hours trying to find in, suddenly billions of dollars are missing. Starts off with one bank, then every bank joins the band wagon, followed by major industry. Even the states, I don't recall our governor talking about lack of funds last summer, suddenly we are 6 billion in debt, CA is much worse.

Is our economy so fragile that if only one domino tips over, they all fall down? Or is this a hoax. Found a mere $2,200 error in one of my 1099's, took two days of my time to straighten that out, but that error was found. Only a few years ago, Ford had enough money in their petty cash to buy Honda, it wasn't for sale, fuel prices have been a roller coaster ride for the last 34 years, but suddenly, Ford is broke.

USA has one bank go sour and suddenly the entire world is in a crisis, one thing that is strongly lacking is investigations. Another thing that isn't lacking is extremely high loss of jobs.

Something is amiss.

Where have you been? Global warming fears have been public at least since the 1992 Rio Summit.

"The Kyoto Protocol is a protocol to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC or FCCC), an international environmental treaty produced at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED), informally known as the Earth Summit, held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 3–14 June 1992."

One would think the evidence would be so overwhelming 17 years later but there's not more evidence we can reverse global warming man-made or otherwise or that the effects would be so terrible. Reminds me the killer bee hype from the 1970s, AIDs in 1980s and Y2K in the late 1990s. All were supposed to radically change everything .

The billions were lost because the assets were never worth billions in the first place. Banks were holding mortgages on inflated house values. When people stopped paying ridiculously high prices for homes, the homes were greatly devalued. Also, banks loaned money to people that couldn't afford to live in homes beyind their means. Everyone knew what goes up must come down but nobody complains as long as a lot of people appear to be making money.

The American auto companies have always had trouble and Michigan has led the unemployment rate for years now. Buying and building SUVs was a national farce feed on cheap gas prices that wouldn't last. The big problem now is tightened credit standards to buy a car.

Certainly I have heard of the Kyoto Protocol, but not every five minutes on the news, you had to dig for that information as you did on that hole in the ozone layer. But in my case, had to get 608/609 EPA certification so I could purchase refrigerants that I was previously purchasing for years.

Now wondering if I have to get 610 certification so I can exhale. Ha, can't escape that constant bit about global warming on a 24/7 basis, not even on this board.

I guess you better get used to hearing more about it as time progresses. You know... like when any issue matures beyond a critical mass of action.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

What do you suppose would have happened if instead of acting on both these issues, nothing had been done, or worse yet, people had actively dismissed these as made up by some scientists with a political agenda, hmmm?

The science types sure are gonna have a lot of egg on their faces when we're still alive in 10 years.

Nobody was saying do nothing on these issues and AIDS was the most politicized disease of the day. Don't know what would have happened if nothing had been done about Y2K except it was a good trial run for emergency services. AIDS would have still been a public health issue due the number of deaths and precautions insituted against spreading the disease. People start to lose the the sense of what's really dangerous, what the realistic threat is and begin dismiss scary stuff as yet more hype. The same could be said for stopping terrorism. The threat exists but it doesn't affect many people and constantly harping on it leads to a backlash.

Y2K - lots of software really was written with 2-digit years, so depending on precisely how s/w used the year data some s/w certainly would have failed. Apocalypse it was not, but it was a real problem with a known, labor-intensive, solution.

I'd say AIDS is still around and can do plenty for lamebrains that don't pay attention what they do with their needles and their pricks.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Yeah, Y2K was quite a year, marketing thing to save a couple of cents on two bytes of memory in computers costing several thousands of dollars, but marketing always wins.

AIDS had an effect on us, a neighbor heart surgeon died from it from operating on an AIDS infected patient with some kind of strange privacy law not even informing him that his patient was AIDS infected. A very good friend of the family also died from an AIDS infected blood transfusion.

Many companies went bankrupt or lost a lot of money during the asbestos scare having to make major recalls with major lawsuits. If carbon dioxide is the present scare and is caused by fossil fuels, make the oil and coal companies have a major recall as well plus let's sue the hell out of them. That is action, not talk.
