Please help me with question 24. Following is my information.

I enterd in USA in 1990 with visitor visa. I applied for Political Asylum in 1991 and was approved in 1998. After a year I applied for greencard and was approved in 2004. Now I am ready to apply for citizenship.

In 1990 when I applied for visitor visa I never mentioned about seeking asylum in US. Within a month I left my country after I got my visitor visa to come to US.

After I enterd in USA in 1990 I waited for a year and half fo file for asylum because I thought things may get better in my country and I will go back but things never changed so I filed for Asylum in 1991.

I was going thru my asylum application which I had filled in 1991 I noticed 2 questions with my answers as follow:

Q. Why did you obtain a U.S. visa?

A. To visit USA and to seek Asylum.

Q. Why did you continue travelling to the U.S.

A. To seek protection.

Question # 24 on N-400

Q. Have you EVER lied to any U.S. government official to gain entry or admission into the United States?

What should I answer to this question? Should I answer No since I was not sure when I was obtaining visitor visa that I may file for Asylum in USA - and get in trouble for lying on N-400 since I answered above 2 questions.

Or should I answer YES to this question. Some times I am thinking I did not lie I just hid the informaiton to official while I was obtaining visitor visa since I was not sure.

On the other hand I just did not come to USA to visit Also I was thinking I may file for Asylum.

Please help me. Thank you everyone.

Take a look at the example forms here on VJ. I always referenced them when I had questions about fililng in the form.

Well the question is did you lie or did you not lie when you applied? When you were applying for a visa, did you know you were going to apply for Asylum? If you did not know then you are not lying. Don't read into the question too much.

Hope that helps and good luck on your journey.
