Signing in does just that. It also was nice for my fiancee to see where it was and maybe help calm her some. It didn't help her calm down though but it did show the consulate I was there and I did ask some questions that I passed along to Trang. Some girl told me pretty much the procedure where she would go and some things. Everyone was so nice to and professional. I even afterwards sent a email to the consulate saying so and thanks for being that way. It was also a nice area and felt very safe to walk around. Lol.

That was actually a real smart thing to do all the way around.

I registered online with The State Department the last time. I'll be there in person this time.

Go to the consulate and sign in. Bring the passport or they won't allow you in. They will let the fiancee in also if she brings her ID.

This is a stupid question but is the Consulate the same as the Embassy or different? I was told to go and sign in at the embassy everytime I travel so they know I was there. I didn't do it the first time but I plan on doing it this time.

The US Embassy is in Hanoi. The Consulate is in HCMC. You can sign in at either one thru the website or in person. There's little difference between them for US citizens except HCMC Consulate handles all the K1/K3/CR1 visas.

You can sign in online also but I just wanted Trang to see where the consulate is and also I wanted to ask some questions to relay to her about what and where she would have to go when she came there. Also whenever I had traveled before to any country I went to the embassy or consulate and popped in and said a friendly howdy.

Yes they do at that and they also are very friendly to come let you know that it is NOT ok to take pics of the embassy. The pic you see of Trang and I under my nick is across the street from the consulate while we were there.

When/If you register as a house guest with the local officals get a copy of the form with the stamp and can use that as evidence for your stay.
