Hey, it certainly goes the other way too. I'm the USC from Texas and when I'm overseas I get the "Do you ride a horse to work?" "What do you think about George Bush?" "Oh, it must be really difficult living in Texas, with that cowboy lifestyle?" I'm just like what? I live in the most liberal, GW hating, hippy city in the world! I usually just start petting the person who asks me things like that on the head like a dog and say, "You're so sweet". lol.

I used to get this kind of ####### in the UK all the time and I'm from Michigan. I wish I'd thought to pet these people instead of just rolling my eyes.

Almost any time Stewart tells someone he is from Australia, they go, "Oh! Austria!! Wow!"

Ummm no.

Like Aussiewench said - he gets TONS of kangaroo comments...

also

1. Are there black people in Australia?

2. Can you throw a boomerang?

3. They LOVE asking him to Throw a shrimp on the Barbie.

4. They'll say G'day mate.....and then giggle.

5. Ask if he's either met Crocodile Dundee or "Don't you just love the crocodile hunter?"

Finally finished with immigration in 2012!

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

*groan* The George W. Bush questions.... No, I don't want to spend the first few minutes upon meeting someone in the UK, yapping about politics.... I like the petting idea...LOL

Another groan-worthy is having to put on the forced smile when I say I'm from Chicago and they go....ohhhh, Al Capone town huh? :bonk:

I get a similar mix-up. when I say I'm from Germany people ask me if it's cool to be next to Australia (Austria, you mean) and if we have roos as well.

Also, I have been asked how we shower as we don't have running water (we don't??)

I was asked plenty to yodel or if I had a lederhosen (I'm a girl!!!)

Well, well, it's great, oh, and one more "how come you speak english without a french accent?" (French??)

Huh. :hehe:

Every time I go to TX they ask 'why are you guys Commies' and say 'I saw snow once, I liked it' and I'm frequently asked to say 'eh'.

Everyone here has teased that I'm going to ride a horse, wear a cowboy hat & boots and have a gun rack in my pickup once I move.

omigosh, this thread is a laugh riot!:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

i get all kinds of weird questions... and i can't hold back the sarcasm.

'wow you speak english so well, how long did it take to learn?' (same time i took you, i guess)

'so you live in the jungle?' (sure do, and i never leave home without my trusty blowdarts)

'isn't the bahamas owned by america?' (erm, unless there was something in that fine print...)

'you guys have internet?' (no i am emailing you in my MIND)

'bahamas? isn't that in jamaica?' (that must be why my luggage keeps getting lost)

'do you get around in canoes?' (sure, just hollowed out one a new one last week)

'what kind of clothes do you wear?' (um, well i usually wear nothing but today is a little nippy)

'can u hula dance?' (of course, kamehameha was my great-grandfather!)

and my favorite one is when people automatically start singing 'who let the dogs out' by the baha men. all of our achievements and culture summed up into one cheesy song that WE don't even play on the radio or at the ball park!

americans are not the only guilty ones. when i tell some people from home that i've been to japan, they are like 'oh so you can speak chinese?'.

but again, this thread rocks. we can all educate each other!

My fiance is not here yet but he works on a cruise ship and when ever someone sees that he is from Jamiaca they are always saying "Ya Mon" but the main question is "So, Do you smoke ganja", so I guess I am glad that he works on the ship before he comes here, I told him everyone will be asking him that. (BTW he does not smoke anything :D )

I got asked 'How do they say goodbye where you are from'

I replied 'Goodbye'

I'm not sure they believed me!

Another time someone was telling me about a movie on TV which she thought was in Italian. When I pointed out it was on the Spanish channel, so it was probably in Spanish, she said that was great because I would be able to understand it. I'm from UK.

Same woman asked me if the programs in England were in English, or were they subtitled.

My favourite game with her is to confuse her over England and Britain. She is forever apologizing because she tells people I am from one, and I tell them I am from the other! Cruel, maybe, but fun.

November 2003 - Dave receives papers, brings them to UK when he visits.

7 December 2003 - Acknowledgment of receipt from Vermont

19 December 2003 - Dave's back for another Christmas
