A friend of a friend of ours works here in the US Embassy in Seoul. We asked him to check up on our case. He says all he could really find out was that we were on the track to being approved but didn't have a timetable. He told us to continue to call Washington to bug them. By Washington, I assume that means DOS, right? Calling DOS always upsets me. Is there any possible link between calling them and something happening?

The Embassy tells me our case is pending AP in Washington from a Security check requested in September. They also tell me they have never gotten a response to this security check. My Senator gets the same response.

Can any good come from calling DOS (minus the day they tell us AP is complete)?

When calling DOS I think the operators note who called and inquired on the case. They were well aware that I would be calling them or Wednesday or Thursday. When my husband was in AP it was almost 5 months and I called DOS bi-weekly and all they could ever tell me was AP. Then one day they said he should of gotten a letter from Islamabad. I asked what kind of letter and said they could not tell me. I called my husband and he called the embassy and was told to wait on the letter no details given. It was a letter to return on xxx days of the week between xxx times for further processing.

This is the only helpful thing we heard from DOS that a a letter was coming. DOS will only give you a peace of mind or keep you upset depending on how you take the news of AP continuing.

Everything I respond to is from personal knowledge, research or experience and I am in no means a lawyer or do I claim to be one. Everyone should read, research and be responsible for your own journey.

I agree with calling bi-weekly. Anything more than that is torture. Also, keep e mailing the Embassy once a month. If I 'm not mistaken, DOS can do an inquiry if so many months have passed .

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

It seems very uncommon these days for security clearance to come in less than six months. Ours took eight. I called DOS the day before we were notified by the embassy our AP finished, and DOS told me we were still AP. Hmph. I found calling them to be unhelpful.
