FYI: The embassy answered a "do we have an interview date yet" question I asked a couple days ago yesterday (today Thai time). So I wouldn't give up on asking them yet. No mention of them not answering future questions. Looks like they still might be answering these questions after all.

My last correspondence with them goes like this:

May19 1:07am Chicago time - they initiated an email exchange with me, by asking for a document (which had already been included in our original I-129F petition last Sept.)

May 19 7:28pm Chicago time - I responded to their email, pointed out that they were given the document in question, and attached a pdf scan of said document.

May 20 - Thanti sent a photocopy of said document by EMS to embassy. According to tracking information it was received the next day.

...

May27 - no response. No email, no physical mail, nothing. That's 1 full week with no response to an email exchange they had initiated, and which was not merely a 'ping' for interview date, but a factual discussion of a document they claimed they needed. They have not even acknowledged receipt of the document, or given any indication of what's going on.

To say that we are frustrated is a massive understatement.

We are now in a holding pattern at the embassy since late March, and it's almost June.

I have been following your story and to me it is just unbelievable, the stress you must be feeling and yet you stay very calm.... I do not have your level of patience for sure. I read so many of these stories and they are just incredible. It is hard to believe that our goverment could really be this screwed up, and this cruel. Well enough said, as people who are living this nightmare when we should be enjoying our dream, we can all feel it... Sorry ranting again.

I would not trust someone sending an email about what to include. My SO has read on the Thai forum where during the interview the american guys asks a Thai assistant if they have the documents in the packet. Without ever looking the girl responds "don't have" when the documents are there. In many cases the beneficiary's will not argue with the embassy employees and do whatever they ask.

My advise to anyone going through the Bangkok embassy is to:

Follow the instructions

Overkill on proof of relationship

Have duplicate originals of anything you have to mail them.

Yes this is ridiculous but the question you have to ask yourself is would you rather do more work upfront while waiting for the interview or after? I want my girl here as soon as possible after the interview and don't mind the extra work. I think it also lets you sleep better at night knowing you have the bases covered.

I have discovered OT (Off Topic) on VJ, and have become hooked on it. It does keep me from focusing too much on the visa situation, and I find it great fun sparring with the nuts on this site (and some cool folks too,.....)

Several years ago a friend visiting from America had had a friend, Wally, at the Bangkok embassy. I doubt he is still there, but I wish he were. I look at timelines like yours which started in Jan or Feb 09 and are now basically on the same track we are on, and just get even more depressed about this hopeless system.

True, our luck has been unusually good so far. Hopefully that doesn't run out. I expect to see the following message in the mail soon though:

"Dear Mr. who the hell cares,

Due to your inability to follow the checklist verbatim even though we have decided to not follow our own instructions when replying to your questions, we have canceled your fiancee's K1 visa and are ordering your immediate execution. Please standby as federal agents will be entering your house through the front and rear windows shortly.

This is a little off topic but if you guys havent noticed I have not been spending much time on here. I found the recent embassy issues combined with the overall duration of this adventure were getting to me. I need to keep my focus on positive things and since I like building stuff I choose to do several projects around the house while waiting for Chada to join me.

My project list is:

*_Running HD to each room from my Receiver / DVR

*_Landscaping the front of my house with flower selection from Chada

*_Building a Thai / American vegetable & spice garden.

*_Finishing up other home projects

*_Organizing the house for our life together

This plus work and friends are consuming 110% of my time. I wont be able to keep this up for more than a few months but that should tie in nicely to relaxing and taking multiple vacations after Chada gets here. This may sound crazy to you guys but its keeping me sane. Do you have anything to do before your girl gets here???

This is a little off topic but if you guys havent noticed I have not been spending much time on here. I found the recent embassy issues combined with the overall duration of this adventure were getting to me. I need to keep my focus on positive things and since I like building stuff I choose to do several projects around the house while waiting for Chada to join me.

My project list is:

*_Running HD to each room from my Receiver / DVR

*_Landscaping the front of my house with flower selection from Chada

*_Building a Thai / American vegetable & spice garden.

*_Finishing up other home projects

*_Organizing the house for our life together

This plus work and friends are consuming 110% of my time. I wont be able to keep this up for more than a few months but that should tie in nicely to relaxing and taking multiple vacations after Chada gets here. This may sound crazy to you guys but its keeping me sane. Do you have anything to do before your girl gets here???

I took a similar sabbatical from VJ for about a month recently for the same reasons. I totally hear ya on this one. I even (temporarily) took up smoking again. My fiancee was less than happy about that, so I took a break from some stress in my life, primarily constant reminders of the insanity that is this process and concentrated on gathering evidence, working, and planning my recent trip to Thailand. I think the blackout did me good, and I'm trying to adopt a "whatever happens happens" mindset. Worse case scenario, if she can't get the visa for whatever reason, I'll move to Thailand I guess, which wouldn't be the worst thing in the world (other than sorting out how to make money while I'm there). Work takes up a lot of my time. When I'm not doing that or talking to Kat, I'm sorting out pictures from all our trips w/ Picasa and watching TV. Anything to make the time pass I guess. I'm trying not to think about my next visit, which will be her interview, because I figure it will be a high-stress scenario for a million reasons.

I'm actually glad I didn't go to the interview. I planned to fly out there 4 days after the interview. She got 221g at the interview, and this allowed me to collect documents here in the US to overcome the 221g. I didn't plan it that way, but my thought was I wanted to make sure she had the visa before I went. I didn't see the point of going, since they don't let you in the embassy for the interview anyway. See what happened to Birch-Beer.

I guess if you have the cash to make two trips, then go for it. I'm not saying this you will happen to you, but alot of strange things have been coming out of that place since around the first of this year.

I didn't see the point of going, since they don't let you in the embassy for the interview anyway.

I read somewhere (actually a few places) that it might be useful to give your fiancee your passport before she heads in for the interview so she can show the interviewer that you are outside. Not 100% sure if that will help or not, but I guess it couldn't hurt. That and I want to be there to help her get things together in case she does get a 221g. Hopefully I don't forget to bring something from the U.S. that I might need.

Not trying to scare anyone, but some weird things happening there. This stoppage of scheduling interviews is odd as well, although it did take me 3 months from case complete at NVC to get the interview. Kinda apples and oranges though since I was IR-1. IR-1 there is no packet 3, so you think it would go quicker. Also for IR-1 NVC schedules the interviews not the embassy.
