The police remembered her, and asked her if she had been there before. She said yes, but then gave them a little story about how the embassy sent her to get another copy (that's a white lie - we haven't had our interview yet). Interestingly, the police guy said that he's been hearing that A LOT.

He may have just being saying that based on Birchbeer, Danny, and now Thanti, going back in. I wouldn't take the police word for it. I would also say the 200 baht fee might be for the duplicate police report since he remembered her, or he might have just figured he could make an extra 200 baht off her. Did she get a receipt that she paid 200 baht?

Could we organize it to have the informational thread to contain common Thai FAQ's in the first several posts?

This is a great idea. We should probably put together a FAQ, show the mods and ask for a sticky. I am sure they would do this.

I did...

I printed out all the forms online, filled them out, and sent them along with all the required documents to the embassy before the packet 3 sent from the embassy actually arrived at my house with NO problems.

By doing that, it'll save you a week or more of waiting.

Good Luck :D

Careful .... you did this several years ago. The current checklist on the embassy website is out of date. It's important to get the NEW checklist and not just download it from embassy. However if the new checklist is used, you are correct that Packet 3 can be returned before receiving it.

Thank you. I should have noted that I did this back in 2007. I am aware that many things have changed over the years. Anyway, my point was that, yes, Packet 3 can be returned before receiving it from the embassy. :)

Danny (actually Chada) hasn't yet gone back for a second visit to the police, she's only gone there once. So the only previous experience known to us is Birchbeer's. Perhaps this police officer dealt with birchbeer's case and now heard Thanti repeating the same story. I wasn't there so I don't know firsthand how he responded. But in Thanti's account to me, it seemed as if the police officer was used to hearing this story and that it's happening frequently enough that it's not a one-time occurrence.

As to the fee - sure, I suppose he scammed her. But for a measly 200B? Is it really worth the effort for such a small sum?

In her words:

New update today I went to do police clearance certificate I have to pay 200 baht fee since when I didn't asked but till now 200 baht fee for every care. just for your info.....

From what I understood when I spoke to her "200 baht for every care" means that every request for a police clearance will now be charged 200B, not just requests for a repeat certificate. Honey - can you comment if that's true?

Ok, I've set up a stub for our Thailand wiki page at http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/Thailand . This is also linked into the main Wiki index page. For now, all I've placed there are links to Danny's page and to Pete's posting of the revised Packet 3 checklist forms. Anybody wanna volunteer the job of creating a full blown FAQ?

Thats what the cops take on the side of the road when pulled over, so it just makes it easier in the office.

I would guess this is more plausible. There have been quite a few other people on here who has gone through recently and they weren't sent out for a duplicate police certificate. I know this is a small percentage of the cases that go though, but I think we would be hearing this more and more on here, rather then just one case if they were requiring this of a bunch more people. So far we have 1 documented case of having to get another police certificate.

Honey - can you comment if that's true?[/color]

:innocent: Time to shown up ha ?

I didn't get any receipt I forgot to ask for, but I asked him "because of I do it for twice that why I need to pay?"

He said No! now have to pay every case because they have been done it free for along time and they can't handle the overheads. Friend from usvisa4thai site she went yesterday, she came from the north for doing it. I read her story today she asked for the receipt ,police said no receipt ! Made me wonder now I want to find out .

I don't mind to pay $6 understand about the overheads and I prefer to have the duplicate if it can save me 3 weeks incase of I have the same problem as others (I also studied many cases from usvisa4thai site they have the same problem)My case has been stuck enough I hope we will not have New Thread "Stuck @ the embassy

Some info from some ladies @ usvisa4thai they have been waiting for their interview schedule quite LONG LINE some cases the embassy got P3 since March 17th still waiting :o they got the same email from the embassy; first told it takes 4-6 weeks but last email THE SAME I got 6-8 weeks is that the new standard?

If 6 - 8 weeks is REAL then I need to go on a pork & beans diet. Chada gave notice to quit her job at the end of next month (4 weeks from now). Yikes!

I'm putting her on double prayer duty from now on...

  my honey.

I HOPE 6-8 weeks is just their way of covering their @$$ coz they don't want to commit to a date. The same as the way USCIS gives ridiculous timelines for processing.

I'm still hoping that we'll get an interview date this week, and that the interview will be late May or early June.... we can hope, right?

Hope 6-8 weeks is not real.... hope you can have steak dinners... and while I'm more of a "hope"-er than an "pray"-er, if it helps, I'll start praying too......

With the police report, she'll have the 6 documents asked for, with the english translations, her 221g form and both passports for her and the daughter.

Here comes another sleepless night.....Keep us in your thoughts folks........

oh, and on all the talk about these extra threads, Why fix something that isn't broke?

good luck on trying to put our Thai thread on sticky.. we've been trying that several times since i joined but some how - nothing happened.

I like the seperate threat...

so that when people ask questions about their visa, they dont have to read through all the other un related things or try to find their questions/answers...

and the threat will have too many pages too fast we might need a new one sooner - and all the informations will be easily lost in a pool of other topics.

but I root for sticky.. once again! lol

BTW.. Just notice.. GRATZ roi :dance::dance:

Thanks Anya! :) Still waiting for the actuall GC though!

I have to go with you on 2 separate threads, and hope that everyone can differentiate between the two. Too many times I've seen people post visa related questions, and then get buried in non visa related talk, and either not get their question answered, or have to ask it again, or worse yet, go somewhere else to get the answer.

Our future Wiki - Just some ideas...

My post NOA1 doc is old (2 months) and needs some updating. I don't mind doing that. It would be nice to build more info around the police report the Barrybbq posted, and some info around divorce, children, prior marriages which I have no information about. I was also thinking our great Thai girl posters could add in some links to the Thai websites for information to get our SO motivated!

Maybe an interview area and what to expect for the SO and petitioner, average time, packet 4, proof of relationship tips

POE info like travel suggestions on tickets, airlines, what to carry on, sleep or don't sleep, best time to depart, weight limits and extra weight charges, how to describe the transfer process to you SO (pictures would be great)

Post POE info - Tips for good times in the 1st 48 hours, 2 weeks, 2 months etc. (Food, family, friends, homesickness, entertainment) Tips for getting acclimated in the USA

Well, you know, .... that's actually why we had that low fly-by with the Air Force One plane over lower Manhattan yesterday.... Obama was pre-occupied dealing with I-129F petitions stuck at USCIS and wasn't paying attention to the naughty-naughty Air Force :P
