Hi I am new here.

My fiancé and I are working on a fiancé visa and we just got the approved notice by e-mail from USCIS. My fiancé didn't meet the minimum poverty guideline for 2008 because he just finished his degree in May 2008. Does anyone know what

assets the government will accept as proof of financial support? In

addition, he has some money in savings. What amount of money would be

needed to makeup a $1500 shortfall in 2008 (he had $12,500 of the

required $14000(100%) for 2008)? Will it be 100% or 125% of proverty guideline?

Thanks for your help!

I believe if you filed now you have to go by the 2009 guidelines, however I have not seen any posted. For 2008 it is 125% of the poverty line which was 17,500 in 2008 for a household of 2 in the Continental US (more for HI & AK). It goes up if there are dependents. If he is active service military then he can use the 100% guideline.

Link:

http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/men...00045f3d6a1RCRD

To use assets to make up the difference it is 3 times, based on 2008 Guidelines and the info you proviced, he would need 15000 in assets to make up the shorfall based on the current income.

Good luck.

Thank you for your quick reply.

Can his assets be life insurance and then add it together with his money in bank account?

After he finished his degree he came to Thailand for 3 months and then went back to the US in August. He just starts working in September 2008. Right now he is collecting all his documents to send to me. His work recommendation letter shows his yearly income is above 125% porverty guideline.Do you think it will help for his situation? He is working as a full time employee at one of the university in SC .

Please advise and Thank you for advance

Concerning co-sponsors in BKK...

I know that there have been a couple people on this forum denied because of trying to use co-sponsors. I am wondering how they solved this situation. According to and email from the Embassy they will not accept cosponsors on an I-134 because it is not a legally binding contract as in the case of an I-864. In our case we have applied for a K-3 which includes the IR1. Because of a family member being ill we have decided to pursue the K-3 while we wait for an IR1 interview. However as a student for the past 8 years I require a co-sponsor for income requirements. All this to say my co-sponsor filled out both an I-864 for IR1 and a I-134 for K-3. In addition to my cosponsor I have signed a contract for a job starting June that will make my yearly income much above the requirement.

Does anyone have any advice in this situation. We still plan on getting the IR1... we were going to fly back for the interview. But we really would like the K-3 so that my family member can see my husband again before she passes away.

Our interview is scheduled for next month... we are going knowing we might be denied on these grounds but I thought I would see if anyone has any advice. In addition how did those of your who have interviewed in BKK present your evidence of relationship? Did you create binder or just an envelope?

Thanks so much. I am going to post this on the K-3 forum as well.

It wouldn't let me edit... but I don't know if makes a difference but my co-sponsor, my mother, is a houshold member. Maybe this would be viewed in a different light?

Favorite Thai dishes?

Mine is กะเพราไก่ไข่ดาว ka-prao kai khai dao - chicken with holy basil and a fried egg. It usually already has some peppers in it, but I add the fish sauce with พริกขี้หนู prik khee noo - rat shite peppers, the little tiny spicy ones, and wow! It's just so tasty.

The reason for using 'k' and 'kh' instead of 'g' and 'k' is just to indicate aspiration (breath) or not. For example, the 'P' in Paul is said with breath, whereas the 'P' in Spain is said without breath. Just hold your fingers in front of your mouth as you say each. In Thai there is the 'B,' 'P,' and 'Ph' used as initial consonants. That is precisely why that beautiful island in the South is spelled Phuket, to many giggles from foreigners, but pronounced 'Pu-get.'

I find Thai transliteration, or karaoke Thai, to be quite cumbersome as well. While typing here, we usually omit tonal marks and other indicators. On top of it, many people transliterate differently, e.g. gai or kai for chicken. I tend to use the Royal Thai General System of Transcription, as that was what I had first learned while living in Thailand.

I wrote in all three, karaoke, Thai, and English, so as to avoid any confusion.

Those are my two favorites, too (although Rin usually makes Nam Tok Moo as we both prefer pork over beef)! We had Pad Krapow Gai with Kai Dao last night for dinner (actually Horapha since it is impossible to find Holy Basil in Memphis). My fav breakfast is Kai Jiao Moo Sub (with Prik Nam Pla to kick it up).

Funny that most of the people I work with ask if I am sick of Pad Thai. We've had it once in the two years she has been here!

Hello all, I received my NOA2 today, and I read up on what to expect next, but I still have a few questions I couldn't quickly find satisfactory answers to:

1.) When my fiancee gets the packet 3, does she need to mail ALL of the completed forms to the embassy, or some? If some, which ones specifically?

2.) When will my fiancee get packet 4? Does she mail any completed forms from that packet to the embassy or only some of them? If some, which ones?

3.) What should my fiancee bring with her to the interview?

4.) Anything unusual I should take into account regarding the embassy in Bangkok or anything related to that?

Thanks!
