We primarily talked on the phone also, however, the consular wanted to see communication from Her to Me, not myself always contacting Her. With the hundreds of pages of phone calls they were all me calling her, and I had to explain that she would call me hang-up (free call), and then I would call back...

The original interview I included the cell phone bills showing all the text messages she sends me, and that was not good enough to show evidence of the relationship, the consular wanted substance, showing we talked.(emphasis added)

I thought this was clear enough.

And I would think that 48 pages of chat logs show substantive conversation between the two. Along with the perfectly reasonable explanation of why there were no calls to him but lots of calls to her and compounded by evidence that she had sent him text messages as well, I don't understand why this officer needs any more information. My original understanding was that the immigration officers are detectives: look at the evidence available and make some reasonable conclusions based on what you see. Unless I am missing something big, I see a total lack of reasoning here on the part of the immigration officer. It seems like any reasonable person would easily conclude that there is nothing underhanded going on here, once again assuming we are privy to all of the pertinent parts of this case (no offense to you at all AaronLV - just covering all the bases).

Guys, no point in arguing with each other. I think it is clear what the COs are looking for, and that is "two-way" communication, which is definitely a change from past requirements. It does seem a little over the top to me, but it does make sense. How many "couples" are out there in a situation where it is just the guy with all the feelings, and putting forth all the effort, while the girl could care less, except to get her "plane ticket" to the US. By seeing that the girl is making as much of an effort to contact the guy, it shows that she is serious about the relationship.

What strikes me as odd is that they are not taking into consideration the fact that it is cheaper for us to call them, that we are trying to save them money, and that it is easier to contact them when we are available, instead of the other way around.

Lastly, I don't know about most of you, but I was raised where it is inappropriate for a girl to call a boy, but maybe I'm a little old fashioned!

I think showing strong evidence of two-way communications is clearly important, that's the lesson I'm taking to heart from all this.

In our case, we have plenty of that. We have roughly equal number of SMS messages back and forth between us. And we have records on both ends of the same messages. I have my SMS logs from AT&T showing inbound and outbound calls from my phone to hers and vice versa. And she has logs from DTAC in Thailand.showing the same message traffic. That should be pretty strong evidence I would think.

As to calling - I'm on a crappy pay-as-you-go plan so I almost NEVER call her on my phone, I use skype for that. But she calls me all the time. In fact we have a routine where she calls me for my wakeup call each morning at 6:15am (18:15 in BKK). It's not as good as having her sleep beside me, but at least I have her voice in my ear each morning when I wake up :)

We just got the following email from BKK embassy. Does this sound right? Another 4-6 WEEKS?? This waiting is getting out of hand. 4 1/2 months at CSC waiting for NOA2, another 2 months stuck at NVC, and now we're still waiting for the embassy to get its act together. We've got all the Packet3 materials ready to ship, just waiting for them to get the case. Sheesh.

Dear Khun xxxxxxxxxxx:

Thank you for your inquiry. As of March 24, 2009, the IV Unit has not yet received the above captioned case from NVC. In order to process the case, the IV Unit needs to have the case from NVC in both physical and electronic files. If NVC has already transferred the case to the Embassy, please allow some 4-6 weeks for the case to be completely transferred to us. Once we received the case in the system, we will be in touch with you by mail.

Regards,

Correspondence Unit

If NVC confirms that it has left, you can easily track it using DHL's website.

It took about five days from leaving NVC until it arrived at the consulate.

I checked DHL from the day it left March 13. And according to DHL it was delivered, I think on March 16.

The problem is that all you can see from DHL is that a package went to Bangkok embassy. You can't be certain that your papers were inside it, since they don't identify the case #s on the DHL tracking information.

I'm pretty sure it's at the embassy and they just haven't gotten to it yet. And I think Danny is correct - the 4-6 weeks is a standard answer they give to all inquiries. I'm hoping we get our Packet 3 any day now, in spite of their letter.

Welcome home Danny, hope you will get Chada here in the US quickly :)

"Welcome home Danny, hope you will get Chada here in the US quickly :)"

Thanks, It was a great trip but I'm glad to have the comforts of home again. :) A funny thing has happened on my last 2 flights to Thailand. It seems like I get seated next to American guys who have married to a Thai girls. They had some great stories on what their lives are like and it was a great way to pass the time.

Hey if anyone is planning a quick get-away with their girl while visiting Bangkok I can highly recommend Koh Samet. Its a really nice / quiet island close to Bangkok.

200b each person / each way for a van. Drops you off at the pier

100b boat ride to the island

1400b a night bungalow on the beach

400b motorcycle rental

Lots of cheap seafood

Plus great picture taking opportunities for "The Man" to know we love each other ;)

I'll post a link to the pictures from my profile in the next day or so. Anyone heard from Hyena??

I second that recommendation. I actually met my fiancee in Koh Samet, she was on a weekend vacation with a friend. Nice island, no question about that. I can't remember what side of the island I stayed on, but I stayed at a 500b/night hotel. Not the Ritz Carlton, but not bad at all. There might be other things on other sides of the island that I am not aware of, but I noticed a pretty decent nightclub (dancing/drinks) called Ploy Bar. Excellent beaches.

All the main guest houses and resorts, including Diamond beach are on the east side. The only beach on the west side that has resorts, is Ao Phrao. Last time I was there about five years ago, there were three higher end place (about 4,000 Bt a night) and a couple of cheaper places, perhaps around 2,000 a night. Ao Phrao is away from the crowds, hence the premium.

One of the best seafood places to go to on the other side had been Jep's. All the staff wear Songkran (Hawaii'an-like) button down t's. Samet is convenient and cheap enough by farang standards, but the price had gone up (between 2000 and 2004) exponentially. Before it was easy to get a place for just 200 Baht. I was living on Thai salary at the time, so that had to be considered.

Hua Hin, though also becoming a bit overcrowded, has a certain charm about it. I can't help but feel that in part it's because the town is the King's official residence. I've been there about five times and enjoyed every trip.

For a little further flung adventure, Koh Chang, just west of the Cambodian border, has some beautiful beaches as well. It is quite a hilly island, so if you rent a bike, be prepared for sharp curves and steep inclines.

It's so easy to live in Thailand, with its comfortable climate, delicious cuisine, and the loves of our lives.

Oh oh.... I knew this was gonna get me in trouble! I think I've been outed.

Honey, I don't think a webcam VDO can be given as evidence at the embassy. They will only take printed photos, not digital media.

Although if you mean "snapshot" as a printed photo of the webcam session, that's a very good idea :) Let's do it!

Koh Chang is our favorite, a very sentimental spot for us. We went there for our first getaway together in 2007, and then returned there last year for our "honeymoon" trip after our ceremony. We've been to other fabulous places too including Phuket and Kho Phi Phi. But Kho Chang is near and dear in our hearts. We stayed at the Ramayana Resort both times -very classy and secluded. And the combination of having the beautiful beaches as well as the interior mountains and waterfalls and hiking trails just can't be beat. It's about a 5 hour bus ride from Bangkok. Alternatively there's air service now, but we didn't bother with that.

Hi I am new here.

My fiancé and I are working on a fiancé visa and we just got the approved notice by e-mail from USCIS. My fiancé didn't meet the minimum poverty guideline for 2008 because he just finished his degree in May 2008. Does anyone know what

assets the government will accept as proof of financial support? In

addition, he has some money in savings. What amount of money would be

needed to makeup a $1500 shortfall in 2008 (he had $12,500 of the

required $14000(100%) for 2008)? Will it be 100% or 125% of proverty guideline?

Thanks for your help!

I believe if you filed now you have to go by the 2009 guidelines, however I have not seen any posted. For 2008 it is 125% of the poverty line which was 17,500 in 2008 for a household of 2 in the Continental US (more for HI & AK). It goes up if there are dependents. If he is active service military then he can use the 100% guideline.

Link:

http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/men...00045f3d6a1RCRD

To use assets to make up the difference it is 3 times, based on 2008 Guidelines and the info you proviced, he would need 15000 in assets to make up the shorfall based on the current income.

Good luck.

Anyone heard from Hyena??

He hasn't posted in this thread, but posted a brief comment in the August 2008 filers thread, he said he hadn't heard anything yet for NOA2 and was getting ready for his ceremony last weekend. Hopefully he will touch base soon, I miss reading his long posts.
