Richard, I will be interested to know how far out your interview date is from the mailing of Packet 3. We are trying to manage a few different dates and are trying to figure out how to set her interview date to fall in a particular two week window.

I didn't even expect the Embassy to do anything on Visas until May 12 or 13. Good luck with the next steps.

Rob,

I'll let you know. Hate to admit but it looks like the Appointment system upgrade effects K1 visas as well. We still have not recieved the packet 4. The embassy recieved it on May 7th.

Hang in there and be patient. You have flown through the process so far, a minor delay will not be to tough to handle.

Good luck.

Yeah exactly! Even though it might not seem like it, you are very lucky. Look at my time line.

Done for 3 years or 10 years. Haven't decided yet.

(I'm going for the IR-1 and blowing off the K-3. Even if it takes an extra couple months, it's worth it to not have to deal with USCIS again)

Note:

Please fill out I-130, wait 6 months for approval, then 3 more months for an interview. (Unless of course we've bombed your country into the stone age, then you qualify for expedited processing.)

Welcome to the USA!!!

Ok. I'm trying to be as patient as possible. Thanks for the advice and I do realize that I have been lucky thus far. The first thing is that I am lucky to find someone as special as my girl. Next is the process has been relatively fast.

Well I received a letter yesterday from the NVC saying that my case had been sent to the Bangkok Embassy on May 5th. I had read that people had received letters like this only to call the NVC and find out that their case was still in Admin Review so I didn't take it seriously. However, I called the NVC today and when I finally got through the NVC representative also told me that my application left for the embassy on May 5th. I'm in disbelief because it's only been two weeks since the NVC received my application so I'm not sure if I believe him or not  I think I will call again just to be sure before I celebrate :)

I think you can celebrate. When I got my NOA2 the case had been sent the day before the letter was dated. DHL delivers them in 3 business days and a day for processing at the embassy and they will be ready to be

sending out the P3 info. You can write the consulate at the embassy, give them the BNK number, both of your names and ask them to let you know that it has arrived and they will email you back after it's logged into

their system. So give it a shot!!! Good luck!!

I took your advice and emailed the embassy and received a very quick response but I'm not sure what to make of it:

"The Immigrant visa Unit is now loading the electronic file of the above captioned case from NVC. Please allow some weeks for us to receive the physical file of the case. Once we have received the completed case files and opened the case in the system, we will notify the applicant by mailing the Packet 3 instructional letter to this address. Please verify."

Can anyone interpret this from bureau speak for me?

Thanks!

Not Visa related, just need to vent!!

Got laid off last Thursday, wonderful.....second time I have been laid off since Oct 2008.

The wife and our son went back to Thailand to see her mom and dad in March, they are both ill and getting old. She needed to go back so they could see our son who turns 1 in 2 weeks. We did not do her Status Adjustment for various reason, mostly $$ so we are going to do her CR-1 while she is there. Should be a breeze now that I am out of work again!!

This weekend our son had a fever and was not eating, Monday AM the wife took him to the hospital in Surin. He has pneumonia................

Last Friday my oldest son from previous marriage deployed to Afghanistan. I'm a retired Marine so I understand but I'm still a father and worry!!

I have not told my wife about being laid off yet, don't need to worry her about that for now.

I am now contemplating going back to California now, at least I have my family there and I may be able to go back to work for a previous employer.

What else can go wrong??

The only good thing the past two years has been getting married and having our son, other than that, it's been pretty shitty..........

Thanks for letting me vent. I am just REALLY frustrated and angry...............

That's a new one on me as well. When I emailed them to ask I addressed it to attn: duty officer. But maybe they are doing things different now and receiving the files electronically...which makes sense...so they can do preliminary reviews and then get the physical file later. But that's a lot of scanning documents and stuff from people and very time consuming especially when guys send in thousands of pages with the app. My first reply

was different than what you got. Since you know the date it was shipped from NVC, call DHL, give them the zip of NVC, the embassy zip and the date it was sent. They can tell you when it was delivered to the embassy. They might ask you for a few more things and they might tell you there were multiple packages sent the same day to BKK but you can just figure one of yours was in there and what day it arrived physically at the embassy. That's how I figured out when it would arrive and it was right on.

When NVC sends the physical documents by mail, they also electronically transmit scans of those same documents to the embassy.

So.... translation:

"We've receive the scans. We're waiting on DHL. Once DHL gets here and we've taken our time to match your documents in our systems, we'll send Packet 3 to your girl. Is this her address?"

The Bangkok Post article about the red shirts having water, power and supplies being cut off and asking people that live in the are to leave during the shut down also reported

"Co-leader Korkaew Pikulthong said the protesters have their own generators, so they would still have electricity. They would also tap into the water pipes supplying the UK and the US embassies."

If they shut down the area so no workers can enter, let's hope the embassy can still operate and process the visa applications.

Someone in the NVC thread said the same thing - the NVC always transmits electronically first then the paper documents arrive in a week or two. Thanks for the info!

Mike,

Thanks

I used visasbkk@state.gov, but I received an auto-response that gave me very specific instructions as to the required subject line and identification info in the body of the email in order to get a response. Here is what they sent me:

"Thank you for your inquiry to the Visa Unit of the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok, please read the following carefully:

Due to the large number of emails received daily, we are only able to respond to case specific questions. If you need general visa information about U.S. visa services available in Thailand, please consult the following websites: http://bangkok.usembassy.gov/visas.html

http://thailand.us-visaservices.com/Forms/default.aspx

1) If you have a case specific Immigrant Visa (including Fiancée) inquiry, you must resend your email to visasbkk@state.gov and the subject line must contain "IV Inquiry," the case number (with prefix of BNK), and the applicant's surname. Your email must also contain the full name of the petitioner, applicant, the type of visa, your contact information and your question. .

2) For a case specific Non-Immigrant Visa inquiry you must resend your email to visasbkk@state.gov and the subject line must contain "NIV Inquiry." Your email must contain the full name of the visa applicant, the applicant's date of birth and your question. "

So the subject line should look like this:

"IV Inquiry, BNK1111111111, Smith"

and the body of the email should start with this:

"K-1 Visa

Case number BNK1111111111.

John Doe 01-10-1974

Jane Doe 05-01-1983

Contact Info:

JDoe@yahoo.com

555-555-5555"

Give that a shot and hopefully they'll respond.

Thanks,

Mike
