More hope that K1 visas are not affected I have provided an extract directly from the embassy website. The fact that we send the packet 3 to the IMMIGRANT VISA UNIT aka IV also gives me more hope.

K Visas:

Once immigrant visa petitioners and/or applicants have received a notification from NVC that their petitions have been forwarded to Bangkok, they should electronically download and follow the instruction package for K visa applicants. When Immigrant Visa (IV) Unit has received all of the necessary documents for visa interview as specified on the instruction package, the applicant is considered "document qualified." The IV Unit can then schedule an interview appointment and notify the applicant of the date and time of visa interview via e-mail address specified by the petitioner and/or applicant. It is; therefore, important that a contact e-mail address is provided to the IV Unit along with the returned documents for visa interview. The petitioner and/or applicant should download and follow the appointment package for K visa applicants once being notified of the interview date by the IV Unit.

Yeah it's kinda a hybrid visa I guess. Technically it is still a non-immigrant visa even though the IV unit processes it. Also from the embassy website concerning K visas:

• Filing an Alien Fiancé(e) Petition, Form I-129F

• Nonimmigrant visa application processing fee

• Medical examination (costs vary from post to post)

• Fingerprinting fees, if required

• Other costs may include translation and photocopying charges, fees for getting the documents required for the visa application (such as passport, police certificates, birth certificates, etc.), and expenses for travel to the embassy or consulate for an interview. Costs vary from country to country and case to case.

Thanks. Time will tell, but I believe all US embassy's are being required to migrate to the new DS160 for non immigrant visa applications. I am thinking the appointment system upgrade is in relation to this. I have been lucky to get this far in the process so quickly. So I have no room to complain. Just pissed about the potential delay and am worried that the current political strife is a ticking time bomb. Now the Yellow Shirts are at it.

I just noticed on the embassy website that they host a web chat. Anyone know what dates and times they hold this? I'd love to give them a little grief and try to get some answers. I was able to download and read a transcript of one from March 30th. It doesn't look like they are online

too awfully long so I am sure there are a lot of questions left unanswered.

I looked at the web site and it appears to me like the web chat is not a regularly scheduled event. I read the transcript and was disappointed that no one asked them any difficult questions (like what exactly is Administrative Processing, why does it take so long, and why don't you update people during the process). Maybe people did ask tough questions and they just answered the easy ones - who knows.

Yeah but if we knew when they did these chats and where then I would LOVE to ask those questions and see what kind of response I get!!!

For those worried if the new ds-160 will apply to their K-1 application, the answer is probably not. It hasn't at other embassies/consulates that have already started using the ds-160. Link shows the K-1 is excluded from using it.

No, with two exceptions. When applying at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate that is using the new DS-160, Online Nonimmigrant Visa Application, you will use only one (1) form. For Embassies and Consulates that have converted to this new process, the DS-160 has replaced all of the following forms: DS-156, DS-157, DS-158, and DS-3032, which are no longer necessary.NOTE: The exceptions are Fiancee Visas (K-1/2) which still require use of the forms DS-156 and DS-156K, and the Treaty Trader/Treaty Investor visa application, which is explained in #14 below.
