I have questions about the medical for the BKK US Embassy.

Under the Embassy Info section of VJ, I went to Thailand's Embassy.

1) Someone wrote Jan. 2010 Bumrungrad Medical and 2 shots, on a Sat. done in 1 day. about 10,000B took 8 hours.

Are they all about 8 hours? Does the medical exam during the week normally take more than one day ? Are they all about 10,000 baht? Or is this because it was done on a Saturday?

2) The web-site for the US Embassy in BKK says they do not require current immunizations. But they say you do need them for AOS, so it might be a good idea to get them done. Does anyone know if this is correct, immunizations are not required by the US Embassy in BKK.

On the page at the following link

http://bangkok.usembassy.gov/immigrant_vis...ncee-visas.html

It says

As a fiancé(e), you are not required to fulfill this requirement at the time of your medical examination for a fiancé(e) visa. However, you may want to do so. These vaccinations are required when you adjust status following your marriage.

My fiancee does not have any of her childhood vaccination records.

Thanks

From what I have read (someone correct me if I'm wrong) You do the medical one day, and then pick up the paperwork the next day. As far as the vaccinations, you will need to get the first series there but dont need to finish them there.

Edit: It would be much better to do as many vaccinations there as possible. They are much cheaper there.

Ok I am the one that did the Jan 2010 update. My fience went to the hospital on a Sat and ask if they could do everything in 1 day so she would not have to miss work to come bcak to pick up doc. this is what they did it took about 8 hrs and cost 10K. I dont know if it was more because it was a Sat or done in 1 day or if they charged her the same price YMMV she did say that it was a little cheaper because she took in her own forms not the hospitals. good luck

We went to BNH and it took about 6 hours during the week, that was along with an hour lunch break. We got there about 10:30 or 11:00 and were on our way home by 3:00pm, with all the paperwork. Our cost was about 12K baht. We did it last year when they required the HPV vaccine, which was about 1/2 the cost.

The BKK embassy does require the series to be started for the K1 interview even though USCIS says you just need them done for AOS.

Thanks

My fiancee did it at BNH, it took a couple hours, and cost a a bit more but not much than what was listed under the embassy guide. I can double check with her and get the exact amount if you want to PM me, or I can post it later. She had to get MMR, tetanus (maybe it's Dtap? I'm not sure) and varicella. It certainly didn't take eight hours or cost that much, but I think that's clarified in other posts. She did bring the latest forms for them and they didn't want to use them because they were still on the older version.

Yeah 6K sounds about right. She already had HPV series done. And second the last sentence, they require it being started.

I appreciate everyone's input and experiences, thank you all. It sounds like BNH might be the better way to go over Bumrungrad.

I am surprised between what is written on the US BKK Embassy web-site versus what everone is saying. I am glad I asked. We will prepare for doing the vaccinations.

***

So my final question is: Did anyone else have a fiancee or are you a fiancee that had no records of vaccinations from your childhood. Audy has asked her mother and looked through everything in the house. She has no vaccination records. What do they do when you do not have any vaccination records??? Do you need to get all vaccinations again???

Thanks to everyone for your help and I hope you all have had a good journey and find a good life in the USA with your loved one.

My wife didn't have vaccination records. They can test to see if there are particular antibodies in the blood, and some of them they sign off that they are not age appropriate. She had a total of 4 shots, one of them was the HPV vaccine. If we didn't have to have that shot our cost would have been about 6K.

Yes, no vaccination records either. I think this is quite routine for the hospital (since many including my fiancee are from Isaan and don't even know what or when they were vaccinated with unless they have scars). They have a routine set up which is probably why they use the older forms : PE, Chest Rads, Vaccinations (MMR, dTP, varicella)

You may want to have her ask, or bring the new guidelines so you don't have to pay an extra 5000 for an unnecessary HPV vaccine. However, someone else said it, it's probably cheaper there and it's a good idea to do the HPV series if she hasn't had it and is young enough.
