Approx Waiting Time for interview date from when the Consulate receives the package from the NVC: 8-12 weeks; 4-8 weeks typical, as of March 2009. Depends how fast your fiance can assemble/complete Packet 3 and return.

If you read the above sentence the 4-8 weeks is from the date the consulate receives your Package from NVC, not from when packet3 is submitted, which yours is about 4 weeks out from when they received it. I went off the data on this site for how long my interview would take to schedule. Most people on the site do update their timelines. If you also read the packet 3 checklist that was signed when returning packet3, it says you have completed all items on the checklist prior to sending in packet3.

Submitted P3 on Monday, anyone else having trouble getting the hard copy in the mail? I emailed them to ensure they received it, and they said they shipped it out just after the New Year and she still hasn't gotten it. Anyway, hoping it gets scheduled soon, looking at bigcasino's info it shouldn't be too long till interview.

No need to even wait for it. If you've verified that they sent it and you know your case #, just download all the forms you and submit your packet 3 that way. (This is what Chanisa and I did -- we never received our packet 3 stuff.)

Hey guys I need some help on this one. It is not visa related but I think you all might be able to help me. I want to get gifts for my in laws when I go to Thailand in May. I as my fience about it and she said yes it is a good idea, that I should get something for her mom and dad and her 2 aunts (she is very close with her aunts).

First I was thinking about a nice bottle of jonnie walker for her dad but she said no. When I ask her what to get them she says I dont know and is not very helpful. her family is rice farmers and live a very simple life. for her dad I was thinking about a nice pocket knife, maybe engraved with our wedding date on it. as for the women I dont know do any of you have any ideas? please help?

You can never go wrong with buying gold once you get to Thailand. Just don't buy that cheap 14k #######.

I know the first time I met แม่ and พ่อ I bought them both gold necklaces, but idk if this will be your first time meeting your in-laws. Next time I go, I will bring mine one of those digital picture frames. I will load it with pictures of the times I spent with them and my fiancee along with pictures of me and my family.

My suggestion to you would be to bring something unique from here, if you have already met them. Maybe you could buy your Aunts a nice hat from where you live to help protect against the sun. Maybe you could bring some coffee from here.

Whatever happened to Hyena? He posted before pretty frequently. Hope all is well.

My wife's mom has some PS3-looking chinese game machine knock-off she plays mario brothers on. It looks like games from the Atari 2600 from 1980. I wanted to bring a Wii for a gift but they are like 3x normal price in Thailand unless you get an illlegally modded one (then it's only 1.5x). Gold was suggested to me as well...

For some reason, giving gold in Thailand bothers me... might as well just put cash in an envelope. I think it's the Thai equivalent of giving a savings bond as a gift-- seems to be viewed as portable money that may appreciate and be sold when the cash is needed. I feel scammed just walking into a Thai gold store.

I bet the Wii would have been a far more memorable and Sanuk-inducing gift.

Sawadee Krup Everyone:)

I am new to the forum but have read most of this thread. I have a question about the Affidavit of Support I-134 form. I believe I am supposed to include a copy of the most recent year's tax return. However, I expect my packet 3 request to come in February or March and I will not have filed my 2009 tax return by then (I plan on filing an extension this year). Do you think they will accept a 2008 tax year 1040 or will they demand I complete the 2009 1040 even though it is not due to the IRS until April?

Thanks!

Mike

You will need more then just the previous years tax returns, I believe they require 3 years. The 2009 tax return is not required provided you submit your paperwork and get an interview prior to April 17th (Tax Day, when they are officially due). I would guess if it is after this date they would most likely require the 2009 tax return

You should be fine. I would include a copy of the 4868 from the IRS with the I-134 affidavit of support.

Yeah Aaron is right about that. I know on the I-864 which is pretty much the equivalent of the I-134 it says last year mandatory, and then 2nd and 3rd year optional. I have seen alot of people get shot down for not having the 2nd and 3rd most recent year tax transcripts even though it says optional on the form.

I included only my 2008 tax return and nothing from previous years for the I-134. I also had stuff on bank accounts, employment letter, house value. I have no idea what mattered or didn't but I'm certain I only included the 2008 tax return and W-2 and no transcript or return for previous years. If your income is enough on the one tax return, *probably* nothing else matters. I don't recall anyone saying they met the limit on their latest tax return but it was a problem.

I doubt you could be expected to provide the 2009 one before April 15th.

To test my theory... for the I-864 I only supplied 2008 tax return + W2 and listed the previous 3 years AGI as the form asks and then answered nothing else. We'll see if I get an RFE..
