She has to come back to get the visa on 11/16! Thanks for the support! She said it was just 2 questions, how did we meet and 1 other I didn't catch. She did the interview in English.

Let me ask a question.

Did anyone here pay sin sot?

Get this- my future mother in law, whom I love and have a great relationship with, is making me pay 200k. BUT.. to keep up "appearances", shes putting 1mil baht out on display! Hahaha.. you gotta love Bangkokians.

I'm assuming we have a 85% shot at getting all the cash back after the ceremony.

But i'm wondering, is anyone else going through this?

Kinda your call I guess. My ex tried to hit me up for 300k. I didn't pay any sin sod for my current marriage. I do send her parents money whenever they ask. It's never alot. Maybe 5k baht every couple months.

I've seen people get totally scammed. Buying cars etc. The usual Thai tradition is to pay it. 1 million whether for display or not, is alot. Kinda depends on her education, family etc. They do, do that with the gold and the money etc. at the ceremony and give it back. It's all about appearances.

I'm pretty jaded about all this. I would tell them when she is on US soil, the money will be forthcoming. Not trying to be negative, but I lived there for 3 years and saw some pretty weird things.

Hello all ... just wanted to announce that On and I are now back in Oregon. YAAY

I flew to BKK on the 29th. We had a wedding ceremony in Hua Hin on Nov. 2, and returned to the states on Nov 7.

Kind of a whirlwind trip. And 2-1/2 days of that honeymoon was spent laid up in bed with sinus, chills, fever and lots of drugs ... but I lived through it and we're home now.

Now have to start planning the real wedding here.

I did and she keeps the money except for one chunk of the cash went to take care of her aging father (a monk living at Wat Karam).

Mostly it's just for show. She even threw a bunch of her gold necklaces in the pile to make it look more impressive.

Mine was in both $ and Baht..puls the gold.. my grandmother saw it and think it's not good enough so she told me dad to put more in there. my parents could careless but my grandma was concerned for my dad's reputation. it's actually my parents money and Bram's. It's for show only for us and I took the gold back to the store right after our ceremony I dont wear any gold or accessories so I dont care to keep it anyway.

What is yogurt milk ? ... and what do they call it in America?

On has been looking for this, but I have no idea what she's talking about. (not buttermilk, tried that. nope)

What is yogurt milk ? ...

My guess is it's "drinking" yogurt. It is liquid like milk but it is actually yogurt (with all the lactobacilli and other good bacteria). We have that in Thailand in several flavors like strawberry or orange but I'm not sure if we have it here in the US (I personally have not seen or looked for it). All yogurt here in the US is in cups, not liquid.

Those in Thailand who are watching their diet or trying to maintain their regularity usually drink this kind of yogurt.

Her Aunt tried to hijack me into all that when I was there last time. She is the Amphur there. Me and her father thought it would be better to drink more Saeng Som and go fishing. I love that guy!
