I have a question? Those of you who have completed this rigerous Journey. Once the Embassy recieves the documentation from the National Visa Center, what has been the average Time Period, before your significant other recieves her Packet #3 or just plainly, when does the Embassy usually mail out Packet #3?

I'm at that stage now for Thailand (Embassy in Bangkok)

Just wanted to get an idea, when she can expect her paperwork in the Mail?

I've allready sent an e-mail to the Embassy with the Case # & waiting for there reply

Thanks!!

I think lately people haven't been waiting for packet 3, they just download it from the Embassy website and send it in.

Hi Everyone,

For the past four years, I've been sporadically traveling back and forth to Thailand (first to study monkeys, but then after that to visit the woman who is now my fiance). Now that my fiance has been approved at her K1 visa interview (which happened yesterday), I really need to figure out some deal where I can earn flight miles for buying plane tickets to go back and forth to Thailand for the next ~50 years. Has anybody here got some advice for how to do this/ which airline to approach about it?? I plan to buy my fiance's plane ticket this week.

Any and all help is appreciated. Thank you very much.

I don't understand this question. If she was approved ... isn't she coming to live with you in NY ? Or is there some other reason you have to keep going back to Thailand on a regular basis?

The best way is to fly same the same airline every time. Keep in mind the sorry a$$ airlines have instituted an expiration program so that if you dont fly their airline at least once every 18 months, or have some type of activity, your miles will expire. Korean Air seems to have been the cheapest for me the last few trips. I see you live in Syracuse (sorry to hear that) Korean Air flys out of JFK, one stop, and the service is excellent. All the American based airlines that I have flown to Asia have been SORRY. Terrible service.

I was just approved yesterday, Alan, so now I am in the final stages of finally getting her butt over here to America to marry me. I was waiting until the final, official go-ahead before I bought her a plane ticket.

Korean Air has been one of my favorites. I like their seaweed soup. Last time I flew with American Airlines and it truly was "sorry." Even to the point where the stitching seams on the seats were coming undone. That in itself doesn't bother me, but it just makes ya wonder about the capability of the plane.

I fly Eva all the time. Works perfect for me, and their prices are competitive, usually within 50 or 100 bucks of the competition, but I like their flight times, and I like being able to take a shower in their lounge when I make it to Taipei, I get to Bangkok about 11am, and it keeps me on a normal schedule.

Check out United's frequent flier program. Sign up for a Visa United Credit Card and they give you around 30,000 miles just for doing so. They'll give you a mile for every dollar purchased on the card. I pay for everything except my mortgage with that card. There are many promotions with cell phone companies, etc. that give out quite a bit of miles for signing up for their service. I think I got 5k miles for signing up with netflix. 5k miles for adding a line to my phone plan. Anyway ...

Also, at some point they'll offer you a business card and give younaround 15,000 miles for getting it. (I cancel that card every now and then and wait for them to offer me another one). I think it's a program worth checking out.

Good Luck

I agree with that completely; the USA owned airlines are Kee; pure keeneow. Having said that, NWA was the cheapest so I used them but I'm flying out of BWI. 3 planes to get there, 4 to get back but overall, the travel time is about a day. I can't get used to the Korean air food but it's better than any US airlines hands down (minus smaller carriers like Jet Blue). I noticed the suitcase size restrictions now won't handle my monster 1000 baht suitcase I bought here last year (was going to bring 4 back for her belongings when we come home). Most people tend to fly whatever airlines are most convinient (and there fore cheaper) from their local airport. It was a bummer when THai discontinued it's JFK straight shot. I loved their food and service.

If you're heading here, WEAR A MASK NO MATTER WHERE YOU GO! I've been bedridden for 4 days straight and can't even find a corrupt cop to buy me some Tamiflu. ALl the hospitals want to see me and the hell if I'm getting controlled by the US or Thai government for travel (just in case) so I'm riding it out. I suspect it's the piggy flu 'cause it's a doozie!

4 games of pool at a bar and next day that was it for me.

Took me about 5 months from sending in the paperwork to getting the visa, I went through CSC. Once she gets the Visa it is valid for 6 months, so it is probably better to file a bit early so you have it rather then wait and then be delayed. Also if you look at the charts it seems the spring into earlier summer takes longer to get then the winter months. Probably be good to file in November 09. If approval comes quick you can delay sending in your packet 3 to slow the process down.
