Also Nans medical cost 10320 baht! is that even possible?!

Ours was 12,600. So yes it is possible. Most likely she is under 27 and had to have the HPV shot which was around 5000 baht just for that shot.

Thanks AaronLV makes me feel a bit better to know that.

I just saw here record and yes she had a total of 7 shots with HPV being one of them.

So now I am just wondering about this police report money. Nan said she gave it directly to a man at the station, and within 10 minutes they had the required documents and were out the door. She said they gave her two original stamped copies as well. I am wondering if she did not have a clean record to begin with... She only told me once, a while back that she got in trouble when she was very young (14 I believe.) But She would not tell me for what, and I didn't press it. She is very anti-drinking and smoking, so it is hard to believe it was drugs or something of the like...

She had the police report in 10 minutes? That sounds a little fishy. Then again, you never know with Thailand. Maybe bigger "donation" = even faster turnaround.

I don't know if everyone who has interviewed had has time to add reviews to the review section, but you can see from posts in this thread over the last couple months that interviews are generally going very well, provided you are prepared & organized and there aren't any other notable issues with your case.

You'll want to make sure your fiancee has a rice cooker when she makes it back to the U.S. I don't even know where to begin cooking Thai food, but luckily my fiancee does. If you are in the same boat, you can have "REAL" food over here then too.

Good luck.

Yes, she'll bring her rice cooker and mortar and pestle. I told her she'd definitely need those (her bamboo cooker, that is) for sticky rice. They sell tons of the regular cookers all over the place for a few dollars.

I planted some hot pepper plants but the vermin destroyed them.

I'm feeling too lazy to research what we need to do next once she gets here. I've adapted her thinking; i'll believe it when we're getting on the plane!

So nice to see we're diversifying our country with beautiful people!

Hi

A couple of questions please if you(s) don't mind. Has anyone's fiancee/fiance ever had any problem with medical at Udon? My fiancee went there twice so far and failed both times. Coming Monday will be her 3rd time. Hopefully last time too but we're not holding our breath. If she fails again, we're talking about her having another medical done in Vientiane instead of going back to them for a 4th time. Has anyone ever failed a medical at one facility and have it redone and past at another? She lives in Laos but many people chooses to have the medical done at Udon but they have a choice of the Australian clinic in Vientiane. I wonder if there's any implications with doing this. Your thoughts?

On a side note, medical care in Laos isn't up to standards that's why the US embassy doesn't allow anyone to go to one of Laos's facilities. But before her 2nd medical she did have a test done at a Laotian facility and they didn't find anything wrong but when she returned to Udon, they said it even got worse than before.

I was not aware of any hospital in Udon being on the US Embassy in Bangkok's approved list. (See below)

http://bangkok.usembassy.gov/root/pdfs/med...ctionsfeb09.pdf

As well, it might be helpful to say what 'got even worse than before' as some diseases are curable and others are not i.e. some may not prohibit her entry into USA while others shall.

I agree, you need to be specific and if someone "failed" the medical then they failed the medical. Get it addressed or cured/treated and move along. Have you had an interview? Is it HIV? Hepatitis? Depending on the disease will depend on the advice from well meaning members. Things happen but you can't try to go around the system and just keep testing until she "passes". You can only go to the hospitals on the approved list (money talks in too many other places).

Just FYI, a mortar and pestal can be purchased for under $10 at Ikea of all places. It is rather small, but it works.

Yes, I've got small brass ones-antique apothecary or small spice but for some reason they relish beating the ####### out of the peppers and that unfortunate crab they throw in there mid smash with a nice big stick! It's amusing watching them make it. Call it insanity but each time I visit, I try my best to fit in which includes eating large quantities of that. After a couple days of intestinal protest, my body adapts and I've actually gotten cravings for it (like right now; I've wanted some so badly for a long time). Hard to explain but it is like an endorphin drug or something. I guess it's like beer. My first beer I barfed at 9 or 10 years old then you learn. In all honesty beer doesn't REALLY taste good but I crave it (I just don't give in much nowadays-too much trouble). Same with this tom macoom. I crave it like mad but it tastes like hell. I figured if they eat it then let's see how long it takes my body to stop rejecting it and it's surprisingly a short time. I eat it, sweat, tear, burns coming out and two rounds of that two days I'm all better and can eat about half the portions they do with no ill effects (except blowing the air to cool down your mouth while eating it).

Tabasco on eggs or 4 packs of hot sauce from taco hell doesn't compare...I need my spicy; I'm hooked! I learned most grocery stores are devoid of this drug and it's nightmarish!

This economy is horrible though. We're praying to our deities to help us find jobs so she can stay (I think I need to show finances again at some point AOS?). Only a week ago I lost my venue to sell old stuff from over there for a nice profit. I' really worried now.
