They don't have Durian here also, which is good. I can't stand the smell of that sh!t.

Kat bought some Durian at a market a couple days ago. I asked her not to bring it into the hotel room. A few days later, it is still in our hotel fridge. Now, whenever I open the fridge, the entire room is stained with that horrible smell and I feel nauseous for a good 10 minutes afterwords. I'm hoping to chuck it in the garbage just before the maids come in and make up the room, but not a second before that. That stuff is toxic!

That gives me but 2 weekends to get the house organized, clean up the mess, buy some new sheets and towels..... Gulp! Suggestions welcome

buy enough so she won't decide to go out and buy more. this way you can nail down the colors of the sheets and towels for the next few years :P

Maybe it's the fact that we have some sisters here in Sawasdee and not only brothers that finally drew your attention to our hangout :P

As to shopping, thanks for the tip. But I'm ok with letting her pick out decor. I bought the house with her in mind and intentionally have done as little as possible to it, waiting for her to get here so we can remodel together.

I think most self-respecting hotels won't even allow Durian onto the premises.

I request that my fiancee keep that stuff on the balcony and even then it smells up the apartment. My fiancee and I and a bunch of people went down south of Pattaya to a friend's fruit farm where we were picking all kinds of fruit. Well some of the guys picked some durian and gave my fiancee one. Later, we were picking mangosteen and I was looking up into the tree and my fiancee was swinging the durian around by its stem ........ right into my kneecap. You know its like a fruit rolled into a razor wire skin, my knee started spurting blood and it turned blue and itchy, almost like there was a poison in it. It is still sore. It added to my hatred of durian.

I forgot how much I rely on her when I'm in Thailand, she usually does most of the talking when we go out and eat and stuff.

Brother rsn,

Ain't that the truth! Man...I was in Thailand for months, across the span of about 20 trips...and, I know that during that time my wife took great care of me and really 'did all the heavy lifting' while she/I were in Thailand. In fact, I really never recognized how much she did for me (us) while we were in Thailand...that is...I never really realized how much she did for me in Thailand until she came to the USA!

Once AAm was in the USA, it was the exact opposite! I had to start doing everything for her! It was a FANTASTIC opportunity for me to repay her for all the kindness and 'project planning' she did on my behalf while I was overseas in Thailand.

And, beleive me, for the next 6 months, you'll be doing a lot of 'project planning' for your wife2be here in the USA! <haha> Your soon2bwife won't really be 'legally able' to do anything here in the USA until you get your AOS rolling and get her a SS#, driver's license, and show her the 'sights'...so, your dance card will definitely be full over the next few months! You'll love it!

Sigh...now that AAm has been here two years though, she doesn't need me to really do anything anymore. She's fully capable of taking care of herself in our wonderful country. I take that as a sign of success!!!

Brother Mark -- what's shaking in DC?

Have a good weekend all.

Brother Scandal,

Looks like its going to be a 'kick back and relax weekend' here in the DC burb. Last night, AAm said to me, "Do you mind that I work overtime on Sunday" I told her 'sure'...its just 6am-2pm. (AAm works in the QC dept of Fedex, M-F 6am-2pm...she says 'IT IS EASY WORK!' But, as you guys well know, if you've spent any fair amount of time in Thailand, waking up at 5am to get ready for work at 6am is a HUGE challenge for a Thai person!

As you guys know, AAm has been working at FedEx for the past 8 months, and she LOVES IT! And, this month she realized that she would get paid 1.5x on Sundays! She had never heard of this 'American Dream' knows as 'time and a half'!!! Apparently, there is no such thing in Thailand...and anyways...in Thailand, 1.5 of 150 baht/per day aint much in the first place (generalizing, of course!...but you get my drift). So, the newly discovered 'Capitalist' in AAm is all over this 1.5X on Sunday...I fear I may never see her on Sunday again!!! <haha>

She also went to her first Fedex Company function last weekend. It was a BBQ cookout. You guys know the drill...volleyball, baseball, etc...nice day with coworkers. AAm came back home from that and she'd drank 2 beers! :wow: It normally takes about 6 months for AAm to get through 2 beers  When she came home she said, "I couldn't believe it! The big boss was cooking hamburgers for everyone! Never, never, never in Thailand would the big boss ever ever ever do that, because he would lose face!" She couldn't get over that! <haha>

Peace to you in Chicago! I haven't been to the Navy Pier in a while...is that still the place to be (for us Chicago Tourists?) I'd love to get AAm there for a charter out on the lake...and hit the ESPN zone.

Peace brother!

I thought about prepping the homepad and all that stuff prior to AAm's arrival. Then, I decided not to do it. I thought it would be more fun for AAm if I waited and let her do it, or rather we did it together. Plus, I knew she wouldn't have much to do during her first months in the USA...until the AOS got rolling. And, in our case, that turned out to be right.

So instead I just bought her a bunch of presents for her first-time-arrival to our pad in Michigan (at that time). I remember I bought her a supersoftluxury bathrobe and slippers and a few other things of that nature. I flew back with her from Thailand when she came to the USA for the first time...so, it made a nice little 'Welcome' for her...after that initial welcome...it wasn't long before she was out building our new life for us ;-)

Peace,

MarkNAam

Best wishes to all my good friends on Sawasdee... hope all is well with everyone going into this weekend.

So - weekend plans!

Rumor has it one of our Texan regulars (we have several!) is sojourning in sunny Florida this weekend. Caliente, Brother Scott! Enjoy a little well earned R&R in Miami.

Brother Mark -- what's shaking in DC?

Brother Robert -- is this the weekend you are out in Vegas?

Brothers Danny, Aaron, Mike, .... big weekend plans?

And what of our sisters - Anya? Noi? Weekend plans anyone?

This weekend is going to be doing yardwork and packing for our trip to Vegas. We leave next Tue for a week.

As for shopping, I would do as Brother Mark suggests, and wait till she gets here, and take her to Bed, Bath & Beyond, or Linens and More, and let HER pick out what SHE wants! After all, she needs to feel like it is now her home as well as yours!

Yaay.. that means she can give private yoga lessons while we wait for the work permit after she gets to Oregon. I'm pretty sure it'll keep her from going nuts.

Also cheers for all the recent folks getting your visas and coming to America.

Good luck to you Mike & your fiancee, have a safe trip. It looks like you lucked out by getting an interview after April. As you have been reading, as long as you have everything in order, the interview should not be a problem anymore. I was freaked out before Kat's interview, but i think I was worried over nothing.
