I-864, and whether medical school loans count as 'income'

I am a second-year medical student at a university in the US. My sole income is from medical school loans (note: this is the norm). I was wondering exactly how I go about filling the I-864 form out because while it asks income (and I can put down the amount of money I get from the school that is for all living expenses) it doesn't seem to ask how I got it, and I have to check "unemployed." Should I just add an explanation in the I-864 packet?

Oh and I'm wondering if all that even matters considering that I will have my stepfather as a joint sponsor, and his income will easily take care of the poverty line requirement on its own?

Loans are not income. Grants, if taxable could be. If you have a qualified joint sponsor anyway, I would simply indicate "medical student" as occupation and income as zero.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
