If I have cutesy names for my kitty (I do) I sure as hell hope I love my significant other enough to bestow loving monikers on him.

He has about a million for me. I'm Pitufita, potita, canarita, gusanita, luz de his vida, crankypants (in the morning, I really AM cranky,) amorcita, etc etc.

He's my Chune, chunepants, amor, mi alma, mi luz, y mi vida... I call him a million sweet little nothings as well.

I think these things help us remember why we struggle in the first place--the sweet nothings and nicknames remind us of a time when we had no worries and had only to love one another. Through the stress of the visa process and the stress of marriage I think it's nice to be reminded of the time when we fell in love--when we put all our energy toward expressing that love.

When I first met My sweetheart and he opened his mouth to speak to me i heard his accent and I immediately KNEW he was from Austrailia. I never even thought to ask him where he was from because I was sure I already knew! Well a couple of dates later I started to call him my Sexy Aussie!! Then he laughed and asked why I would call him that, and I replied.. because of your sexy Austrailian accent, he laughed his #### off, kissed my forehead and said " Baby I'm from South Africa!!! We both laughed so hard and my lil pet name for him has always been "AUSSIE"! it's so cute because he answers to it like its his real name!!

My fiancee calls me "lao gong," and I call her "lao po." Literally, they mean "husband" and "wife," but colloquially they are used by anyone in a serious relationship. We started using them long before the topic of marriage ever came up.

She has a very playful personality, so she came up with many other nicknames for both me and herself. But, they are far too embarrassing to post on a public forum.
