my 90 days before my green card expires will begin in mid july. the thing is, my wife and i are moving from san diego to the bay area at the end of july. what is the best course of action to take to make sure that any I751 correspondence gets mailed to my new address?

should i put my new addres as the mailing address on the I751? or should i just include a note explaining that i am about to file the AR11?

please don't tell me to wait to file the I751 until after i've moved because i really don't want to put off doing it, just to be on the safe side!

HI! i would suggest to you to file the I-751 on time.

When you move to another house you should file the form AR-11 ,Alien Change of Adress within 10 days of your Cahnge of Adress to Kentucky.

Also you should mail one more form AR-11 together with the form I-865,Sponsors Change of Adress to the Service Center where your I-751 application is gonna be located. Also dont forget to call 1-800-375-5283 number and notify them about the Change of Adress on the phone as well.

I was in the same situation as you are.We have filed the I-751 in the end of the January.

Then ,we have moved to a new house in the beginning of May. I have filed AR-11 to Kentucky, then one more AR-11 and I-865 to Nebraska. On June 6,2006 my I-751 was approved and the approval letter was mailed on the new adress to me. And yeah i called the 1-800 number as well and told them about my new Change of adress. I also reasked the gentlemen on the phone if he has Changed my Adress in the computer and he told me that he was going to do that as soon as we finish the conversation. I;ve thanked him and that was pretty it.

Good luck.

Sincerely.

HI! Also about the correspondence after you file the I-751 .You should receive the NOA letter within a week ot two after the filing the form. If you are not gonna move by that time they can mail it to you on your old adress. Wait at least 3 weeks for the NOA letter after you file the form ,dont move anywhere.

Or ,also you maybe should already mention your new adress in the I-751 form and file the AR-11 and I-865 together with the I-751 to the Service Centure and one more AR-11 form to Kentucky separately. Dont forget to write a cover letter explaining whats goin on. They might mail the NOA letter to the new adress to you when you move as its just 2 weeks difference right? I would also suggest to you to mail all the correspondense via express mail,so you can track your packages online and the date they were delivered and who signed fo them.

Ok,Good luck.

Sincerely.

If you ask me, I would suggest not to file before moving. You can file 3 months after mid-july - even one week before the exp date on the green card. Then, you get NOA and you are good for 1 year (status valid, valid for work and travel) and then you will get a new green card after 3 months. Kentucky for (AR11) could not be processed on time and then you will get approval letter on your old address. USCIS mail says DO NOT FORWARD - RETURN SERVICE REQUESTED, which means US PS will not forward it, but return it to them. It could cause complications. Filing later (as long as before exp date) is perfectly safe.

Hi! They can change the adress right while you talking to the Sir/Madam on the phone, thats why its important to call an 1-800 number. After that you can mail an AR-11 form, but the adress is already going to be changed in the computer system. Its still very important to mail the AR-11 and I-865 forms as i said.

You usually don't get acknowledgement on that.

Its important to file the I-751 form 90 days prior the Conditional Card expiration date.Thats the rules.

Express mail service is a very good way to mail the correspondence. You are mistaken about that the USCIS DO NOT FORWARD THE -RETURN SERVICE REQUESTED. As If you Request for the Return Service for something they will mail the response back to you in most of the cases.,if you include the priority mail envelope inside the express mail, envelope.

Sincerely.

IMO:

If you can receive mail at the new address, just file with the new address.

If you cannot receive mail at the new address until you move, then wait the couple of weeks until you move and then file. 2-3 weeks isn't going to hurt anything and you will still have your application in well before the deadline. You just don't want to wait until right before the deadline to file.

I would not under any circumstances file with the old address. In my very humble opinion, that is just asking for a headache.

You did not understand. When you send something and if you write RETURN SERVICE REQUESTED on the envelope, if the person moved from address A to address B (and asked USPS to forward all the mail from old address to new address), then USPS will return the letter to you with explanation that the person moved and you requested RETURN SERVICE (insisted that your letter is not forwared if the person is not on that address). I am 100% sure (got many letters from them) that every letter that comes from USCIS says RETURN SERVICE REQUESTED on the envelope.

If they did not write that, USPS would simply forward that letter to a new address.

If you are planning on moving just a few weeks after the first date you can file then just wait and do so once you have moved it is not going to make any diffrence to your case... you will still have filed within the 90 day window.... makes much more sence than having all the problems that can go with trying to change your address after you file....

Agree with the above. USCIS mail is usually not forwardable by the post office.

thanks for all the replies. we're going to move in with my mother in law for a month while we find a new place so i'll be able to receive mail there before and after i get a long term place. so i think i'll file with the new address and write a short cover letter explaining i am about to move and am filing the AR11 simultaneously.
