Well, with expired card and NOA, you shouldn't have problem at port of entry in USA as officer should know abt this...

My question/concern is that what happens when you try to board from your country(in my case its India) and also the transit country(i.e Germany to change filght) as they may not be familiar with this and what if they make big deal abt expired card and dont understand the NOA letter ??

Any experience/feedback from anyone??

Thanks.

Yeah, I'll probably be traveling back home this June and since I just sent my forms it's unlikely my GC will be here before my trip. So also hoping will have no problems with just my NOA and expired GC.

Not true, Maybe in big countries with not ignorant officers like mine but I had a little problem with my AP about 2 years ago in my trip to Venezuela. They didn't know what was that, they mostly know about green cards and visas/stamps. After some minutes talking and explaning with the supervisor, they decide to make a copy of my AP and then let me take my plane but they was not too convinced.

I strong recommend to make a Infopass and request a stamp in your password. With that you can really enjoy your trip without any delays or problems.

Good luck.

ignorance or not they usually figure it out... AP has been around for years... you will not be the first

YMMV

We must be the unlucky ones- but every single time we've left the country, my husband has had problems re-entering. Since his green card is expired and we're "lucky" enough to have his I- 751 processed through the VSC, we will not be taking the risk of leaving the country until it's approval. Those of you who have never encountered any problems- consider yourselves lucky. Nothing like being treated like ####### when you have a valid green card while travelling with your American wife and two American children!

See my timeline for all previous dates!

Naturalization:

6/28/09: Mail N-400 to Texas

7/6/09: NOA1

7/24/09: Biometrics

10/08/09: Interview

11/21/09: Receive oath date

01/22/10: Oath Date

With thanks to all the helpful people who made this journey slightly more bearable.
