Forum,

I just filed the I-130's for my stepdaughters. What paperwork will be reqired at the next step? I didn't see anything in the pinned instructions.

I am assuming the Embassy will require a stack of papers or something as usual. Are there any more fees after the I-130?

Thank's,

Helmut.

Hello Helmut & Bee,

Believe it or not, I was just signing on to ask the exact same question! My wife came to the USA on a K1 almost 2 years ago. Unfortunately, we were not able to file the K2 before the one year mark of my wife's arrival in the USA, so we missed the window for the 'join-to-follow' process. My stepdaughter is now 14, and we had her listed on all of my wife's K1 papers.

So, in the first week of October we filed the I-130 for my stepdaughter. I filed as the petitioner because I read on VJ that the process is much quicker than if my wife had filed for her. We received the NOA1 about the middle of October. We received the NOA2 on January 9th, 2009. The NOA2 just states that the approved K2 petition for my stepdaugher has been approved and sent to the NVC. So, this much of the K2 process I can speak intelligently about

I was just about to ask about the same questions as you when I saw your post. Specifically, I was wondering if the same steps 'Post-NVC' would now commence in the same manner as they did for my wife when we were getting her K1. Specifically, will the NVC send the approved petition to the embassy in Bangkok, who will in turn send a Packet 3 to my daughter...and we will then fill out he G-325a and other associated paperwork as provided in the packet + get a medical and police report, and then the embassy will send Packet 4 with an interview date?

Has anyone on here been through the full process of receiving a K2 for a stepchild under 21?

Well, I hope someone can help us out Helmut & Bee. However, I will be sure to let you know how our process proceeds as my wife and I are going through it.

What part of Thailand is your wife from and where are you guys now? My wife is from Chiang Mai. We were living in Detroit when she first came to the USA, but I took a new job near Washington DC about 6 months ago, which is why we were unable to do the 'follow-to-join' process...we simply had too many moving pieces at that time! However, we are well situated outside of DC now and really love it and are looking forward to having my wife's daughter join us soon! I hope she'll be here sometime this summer!

Peace to you,

MK+JC+AK

I was waiting for someone to answer because I wanted to know too. I have two stepchildren that I would like to file for and I don't know where to begin.

As far as the follow to join, I initially thought that the K2 visa had to be issued within one year of the K1 being issued. We brought two of my husband's children with follow to join. My husband received his visa in June of 2007 and arrived here in July of 2007. The two children initially had interviews in June (I believe) but had to go back because they didn't have everything. Their second interview had to be postponed because they still didn't have everything, then they finally got another interview in September and received their visa. I was scared that they were going to be denied at the last stage but they weren't. It's worth a shot to try for the follow to join. Maybe ours went through because the process started before the year was up or maybe because they had an interview before the June date and it got pushed back, I don't know. I'm just glad we made the attempt and continued.

Just starting the journey, haven't yet filed... Until today(2/12/07)!
