Canadian province Ontario announces multi-billion dollar plan to build and refurbish nuclear plants

TORONTO (Reuters) - Ontario on Tuesday announced a multi-billion dollar plan to build and refurbish nuclear power plants as it struggles to keep pace with rising demand for electricity.

The province, Canada's economic powerhouse, said its 20-year nuclear power project would cost C$46 billion ($41 billion), although a previous survey tipped the figure at closer to C$70 billion.

Ontario also said it intends to double the production of renewable energy -- hydro, wind, solar and bio-energy -- to 15,700 megawatts a year by 2025, and boost conservation efforts to cut energy use by some 6,300 megawatts a year.

Ontario is getting so desperate for power that they're offering anyone who wants to install, or already has solar panels to buy their excess, and a tax rebate. My Mum says there's a guy down the road from her who sells his excess, and 95% of the time he's completely off grid. Right in the middle of town.

I used to live right between 2 nuke plants. My cousin used to say that they sell cyanide pills at the drug stores around there, just in case of either of them going Chernobyl-like.

yet they still use electricity. another example of yapping about something that many in that organization won't do without. bet they drive cars too.
