THANKS to everyone!!!!

Congratulations, we had our interview the same day as you did. I remember seeing both of you, didn't recognize you though. Unfortunately we were placed in AP as well. Our CO said it should be two months (supposedly). I will put the details in a new thread later, not really feeling like writing right now. Again, congratulations.

Hello everyone,

Here is a little background about our case. I had applied for political asylum and was denied. I was given voluntary departure and left on time. When we spoke to the CO he asked us some routine questions. He then asked me if I brought the papers for my asylum case. I said "yes, they are all there, three big folders". He then proceeded to look over the papers in great detail. He looked very closely at every page of my asylum case. He asked me about some dates. He asked me about my kids, and then he kept looking at my asylum case. He then asked for my Cedula and made a photocopy of it. Everything looked like it was going fine, until at the end he informed that we would be placed in AP. He did not ask for any evidence of our relationship, not even for our four year old daughter's birth certificate (she is a US Citizen). No pictures, nothing. He informed me it would take about two months for the AP, but from reading here on VJ, it looks like thats what they tell everyone. He returned my passports and asylum folders. He kept everything else. Although we are disappointed about being put on AP, I must say that the process at the Embassy was very smooth and the CO that interviewed us was very professional and courteous.

I am really sad at this point, I thought this was going to be our final stage in this long journey. My husband has been separated from us (our two kids and me) for 16 months now.

My husband just sent the Embassy an email explaining our situation of being separated for so long and that kids are involved. I hope they take that in consideration and expedite our case.

If anyone has had experience with an Asylum case and Administrative Processing, please give us some suggestions. I wrote Bocajr27, who also went through something similar with his wife and he gave me some advise and information... Thank You!!

Joe, I'm really happy for you guys. If there is any suggestions/advise you can give us, it will be really appreciated.

I want to wish Carl & Jessica best of luck tomorrow (Tuesday). May God be with them.

Thanks to everyone who has helped and will continue helping us!! Please pray for us.

I am enclosing a scan of our 221(G) letter. This is a translation of the document.

This office regrets to inform you it is not possible to issue you a visa at this time since you are ineligible to receive said visa under the immigration and nationality law:

(X) Section 221(G) - Has not presented documentation to establish eligibility.

Other

Your visa application has been retained until an internal process has been completed. We will be in contact with you once the process has been completed and will tell you what steps to take.

The red stamp says "Expedite/Immediately 221(G) IV Unit - Bogota"

I'm going to make a new thread to see if other people from other countries have gone through the AP process from having claimed asylum.

I can finally report some good news- they approved the visa yesterday! We went to the window and the guy (different one from last time- I thought for sure it would be the same dude) just asked a few simple questions to Valeria and then said it was approved! I was at the window looking at the paperwork he had in front of him, and it looked like a checklist of things that was checked off completed. Looked like several AP things they must have needed to get before ending it. It was 8 1/2 months that it took from the first interview in April. I hope I will hold the Colombia Club record for AP wait , because I wouldn't want to wish that long of AP on anyone!

We were in Bogota from Wed. until today Friday (interview was Thur.) and back in Pereira now, and heading back to L.A. on Monday. I don't think it has sunk in yet, but I can finally say visa approved...

Here's some info on vaccinations -- Hopefully, this will help explain some of the expenses and time involved in the vaccination process in Colombia (provided by Leidys).

Hepatitis A - 2 dosages

Hepatitis B - 3 dosages

Influenza - 1 dosage

Tetanus - 5 dosages

Triple viral - 1 dosage

Meningitis - 2 dosages

HPV (according to age) - ??? dosages (depending on age)

The following vaccination centers in Barranquilla can be checked on for the best possible prices in Barranquilla:

Question for anyone please: The paperwork (visa things) arrived to my gal from the embassy today to her by Domesa. She apparently opened something that said "do not open" by mistake and is now all worried. Anyone know what actually is in the things that are received? Not sure what item or items she was not supposed to open?

From what I remember and what most of us have talked about, the visa is pasted on the inside of the passport and the passport is attached to a big manila envelope. This envelope CANNOT be opened because it has to be sealed when she hands it over to Immigration when she arrives. They're the only ones who can open it. If this is the envelope she opened, she will need to go back to the embassy to have them seal it, she can't seal it herself.

And what's in the envelope? Everything Immigration and the USCIS will need to enter her info in the system. It will have the original I-129F forms, your I-134, DS-230 and whatever notes the CO may have written.

Diana,

Oh no- that's what I was afraid of. She will have to go to the bank to pay to get a PIN to call and make another appointment at the embassy and then take a 10 hour each way bus ride to get there- what a bummer. I'm gonna have her call and see what can be done, if anything.... great

Diana,

Oh no- that's what I was afraid of. She will have to go to the bank to pay to get a PIN to call and make another appointment at the embassy and then take a 10 hour each way bus ride to get there- what a bummer. I'm gonna have her call and see what can be done, if anything.... great

Call them first. She may not need to make an appointment to have it sealed but every person who's written about this has said that they had to go back to the embassy to have it done because they were told they couldn't do it themselves. Who knows, she may only need to drop it off and pick it up the same day.
