Hi everyone, I hope all of you had a great 2009 and a better 2010!!

For me 2010 is starting off really good since I have my interview in 2 weeks. We are very excited!!

I have a couple of questions.

My original interview was set for January 4th and my son's interview was set for January 14 (USCIS didn't link them together). I changed my interview for the 14th to have it the same day as my son. We just received in the mail the packet for my interview. It says Interview Jan 14, MEDICAL Jan. 04. I live in Medellin, does this mean I have to get my Medical this Monday and come back on the 14th for my Interview? For those of you who went through this process already, can you please share some information on this? I was planning on going to Bogota on the Jan. 12, do my son's and my medical on the 12th and do the interview on the 14th. Can the Medical be done like this or is it only by appointment. Has anyone had any luck with changing a Medical so it can be coordinated with the appointment?

Thank you!

I think you could do this - Because of the way that Packet 4 reads, 2 weeks should not be too much time, but you should call them to make sure.

Attachment D - Packet 4 reads...

"Laboratory Examination -You should complete your medical exam Before your visa interview at the following address:

BOGOTA - Instuto y Labrotorio Clinico Tel. 232-7272"

"General Physical Exam - You must schedule an appointment for any afternoon after you have had your blood test and chest X-Rays and BEFORE your appointment at the Embassy..." This does not say precisely when, just BEFORE your interview.

Tels. 288-7629, 245-9290

Dr. Jairo H. Roa

-Ken

Thanks for the reply. My son and I have left to Bogota to see if both of us can do our exams. As I wrote earlier I received a letter stating my exam is scheduled for Monday, but we never received anything for my son. I hope he can do it as well.

I have another question, with the Packet 4 they sent us another DS-230, but this one is in spanish and looks different than the one we sent to NVC, do we have to fill this one out too, or is the one we sent before good enough? I have an extra one that my husband filled out, can I take that one instead?

Thanks!!

Sandra,

The embassy won't make your medical appointment, you have to make it yourself with one of the two available doctors in Bogotá. Now, this may be a new procedure but as far as I know, they won't make those appointments for you. Usually people who live outside of Bogotá will go to their lab and medical a couple of days prior to their interview.

As far as the DS-230, you don't need the one the embassy sent you since you already sent all your paperwork to the NVC.

Hello allllll. 4 MAS DIAS!!! Finally lol! Does anyone know if any US Banks have connections with any Colombian banks that do wire transfers for the lowest price. My bank, albeit a very good one, unfortunately charges 35 dollars for international wire transfers. We need a bank that does wire transfers for a small nominal fee. Or a bank that can easily transfer money to Colombia.. Any ideas Colombia Club :D?

Thank you Diana, we also thought the same, the thing is my husband received the letter stating the medical was today, weird. When I called the Medical Office earlier today, she told me she did not have me on the schedule, I had to practically beg her to take my son and I today, they had no available appointments, luckily she was nice enough to slide us in

I have one more question, does anyone know if my son who is 13 years old need a Certificado Migratorio? We are doing a IR1 Visa.

Thank you all for all the help!

We go to a wire transfer service here in Denver, it's called AFEX and you can find it in most Latino stores in the country. They charge $4 for every $100 and pay a lot more than Xoom. Last week I checked out Xoom's site because it's more convenient but noticed that they were paying like $1900 and something pesos per dollar when AFEX was giving $2040 pesos.
