Our I-130 was approved today! Yay!

However, after reading about jomartinez67's experience with the interview, I have a couple questions:

Are the interviews usually that intense? Is it important for me (the American spouse) to be there at the time of the interview? My husband (the Colombian spouse) is a rather nervous guy when it comes to scrutinizing interviews and these consular officers seem to be pretty intimidating and rude (what the hell... asking you if you know your wife is pregnant or if you're sure it's yours). Are we gonna get denied since my husband will more than likely show nervous at the interview? I mean, I don't think so... after all, our right to be and live together as a family is at stake so I think it's only natural to be nervous...

Thanks again for all your help, guys!

cristina If you can make it to the interview if only for moral support I would suggest it, as you state he is already nervous can you imagine? I the USC at my AOS ( well not my ) interview was mote nervous than my paisa ( go figure ). Make he has all docs just in case you can not make it. Good luck

Why is it that the only one who can stop the crying is the one who started it in the first place?

I will try to make it.

I'm in Colombia right now, but the thing is I gotta go back to the states in 2 months and won't be coming back until december. If the interview doesn't happen while I'm gone (I doubt it, since we only just got approved by USCIS), then I might make it next time I come.

Why can't I just grab my hubbie and take him home with me, where he belongs? T_T Being separated like this is horrible and I can't take it much longer. We even went and got me a spouse visa and medical insurance in Colombia so I can come here as often as I can and stay for as long as possible. This time I'm staying for 5 months, and next time (when I come back in december) I will be staying for about ~4 months. But it still kills us every time we have to say good bye at the airport... it's the most horrible feeling ever. And only being able to talk to him through Skype without even holding his hand is too much for me and I end up crying all the time.. ###### I'm even crying as I type this.

I know everybody else has to go through the same and sometimes even worse and that I shouldn't be bitching but I'm just nothing without him. He takes such good care of me.

I'm sorry for ranting and being all emo and stuff... I'm just really really really NOT enjoying this 'process'.

Make sure you have everythig ready once you get to NVC do you have the shortcuts? Just FYI in 2007 my kids ( CR2 ) we approved in July had one RFE , waited for the money and then the holiday they go their appointment in Feb of 2008. So you may just be able to bet here dear. The wiating I imagine must be gorrible, at least though you can go and spend time with him in the interm. Get all the papers ready cause once you are at NVC it will go quick :)

Hang in there- it is frustrating and depressing, to say the least. It is nice you are able to spend so much time together, but saying goodbye is terrible, I know the feeling... Good luck with the K3 process...

As NArocks said if you can make it to the interview, go with him. My husband and I had a pretty solid case but I still decided to go just in case, the CO only asked him if I was his wife when he saw me and that was that. The interview only took 3-5 minutes, basic questions were asked and he went over every single piece of evidence we had brought with us. Easy!

Here's a tip, the NVC takes about 3 months to process your case but you're in control of that as well. It all depends on how quickly you mail them everything they're asking from you. They make appointments during the first two weeks of each month for all completed cases for the following month. So if they complete your case before the first two weeks of November, they will more than likely make you an appointment for December which would work to your advantage since that's when you plan to go back. Just an FYI.

Thanks for the replies, everybody! You guys actually give us a lot of hope. We have everything ready for the NVC process and plan on using the shortcuts, though we hope that won't backfire on us.

After the NVC step, when do you have to take the medical tests? I mean, there is a span of about a month, right? Is that enough time for you to take all the tests or can you go ahead and take them whenever you want?

And a question for Diana: You are the American citizen, right? So that means your husband is the immigrant, right? It's just that I was a little nervous because I don't see many cases where the husband is the (intending) immigrant and I thought there may be something to that...

Is there a difference in the way the handle cases like ours?

CristianAmour,

Your husband will need to make his medical appointment after his case has been forwarded to the US embassy. The appointment only takes one day so if he lives in Bogotá he can make it a week or two prior to his interview. If he lives outside of Bogotá he can have it done 2-3 days before the interview.

And yes, I am the US citizen and my husband is the beneficiary and to be honest with you we had no issues at all because we had a straight forward case and had a ton of evidence. I think that as long as you have a solid case and enough evidence to back it up, you'll be fine.

CristianAmour,

I saw Diana mention going to the interview...if going is a question in your mind I will say I was on the bubble about going to the interview with Alexandra, not that I didn't want to support her, but there were a couple of reasons, timing was bad. Last minute I scraped the money together and went. It was the best thing I could have done. There were 2 rejections right before our turn, and they were told bring your fiance to your next interview and we will discuss it further. We had piles of evidence after 6 visits but I sure am glad I went!
