There are free services that allot a certain amount of minutes per week to call Colombia. My wife uses it for calling my suegra. Can't remember the name right now though.

Ken, I'm not sure if you're interested only in plans to call Colombian cells (in which case, Orbitel's online pins seem cheap to me at $0.05/min after 6 pm), but fairly recently Skype started a plan where you can make unlimited calls to Colombian land lines for just under 6 bucks a month - flat rate. That's a steal in my book.

Hey Pat,

Thanks for the support- I just got in from Colombia tonite. I had a nice time there with my sweetie, but hard to leave her behind. Unfortunately, I have still not heard anything- I was hoping we may get notified while I was there, but nada. I'm thinking I should hear something soon, but who knows at this point...

Thanks,

Joe

Joe I am sure you will get notified soon. You and your wifey look really great together what all did you get to do? Anyone try doing the extremesports.com down there yet? Looks fun, but im going to have to whip myself into better shape haha. Time to hit the gym big time!

James

Hey James,

On this trip we went to Nevado del Ruiz- it is a valcano located outside of Manizales- it was like a 3 1/2 hour drive from Pereira. We hiked up that, but it was freezing and the altitude started taking me down, hiking up that sucker!

That is awesome and your wife really likes adventure! I bet that was pretty high too. My wife was trying to talk me into seeing the mud bath on top of a volano near Cartagena. I chickened out lol.

And skype $6.00 to landline in Colombia thats awesome. If they have one for cell phones that is more reasonable then I would like to use it because Yahoo is rediculous in their current computer voice to landline/cell charges.

Mayra,

No news to report on my Administrative Process (AP) still in progress... I was hoping for something in less than 2 months, but I am just about at that point now. Seems like the couple of people here in Colombia thread that were in AP in past was around 2 months or less, so I am just hoping....

I did get this email response today from Bogota, from an email I sent yesterday asking about my case:

Dear Mr. Patton:

Unfortunately, this case is still in administrative processing. These processes can take several months, depending on the situation. We will contact you as soon as possible when we are ready to proceed with your fiancee’s case.

Sincerely,

IV Unit

Sorry Ken... I've been so busy lately with that free phone service I forgot to ask the boss about it. I'll try doing so today if I don't forget!!!

Skype is, nevertheless, a very cost-effective alternative. And if I am not mistaken Vonage or a similar service is offering something to Colombia that makes it similar to what its been offering for Europe.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.
