BANDEJA PAISA! Yummyyyyyy~!

If you guys are hungry for goodies from home, we have discovered a wonderful little Colombian bakery & restaurant here in our local Ft Lauderdale - Sunrise - Lauderhill - Tamarac area. Check out La Antioqueña in the shopping plaza with the Petco & the Publix on University Drive just north of Commercial Blvd. Vanessa is always bringing home tasty goodies from there, I particularly love the freshly baked loafs of bread with the melted cheese inside, mmmmm.

I've been waiting to find out my interview date for my K1 visa application. They acknowledged reciept via email on 12 May. I've been following the Colombia Club Guide and Tips page and called the US DOS visa office who told me my application was still in Administrative Processing. When I asked further about this they told me that it would be in AP until the visa was issued. Should I be worried?

Tim and Adri,

No, you should not be worried unless either you or your fiancée have a "shady" past. AP is mainly done on people whose names raise a red flag in their system. They need to go through the FBI's database to see if there are any records on the people their investigating. AP can happen at the NVC, at the embassy before the interview such as your case, or after the interview. As soon as your AP is complete, the US embassy should be able to give you an interview date. It could take a couple of days, weeks or months and there's nothing you can do about it but wait and check back with them from time to time.

Here's more info on the process: http://administrativeprocessing.blogspot.com/2008/12/national-name-check-program.html

Hi guys/gals,

I am a little confused here. I received my NOA2 on May 18th. Will they email me or mail me something when I have been assigned a case # at the NVC? After it leaves there and it gets to the embassy, will they send me or my fiance in Colombia the packet 3? I may not be a little confused, maybe a lot. Thanks for the help.

Brandon,

In a perfect world the NVC would send the case to the embassy in Bogotá, then the embassy would send the Instruction Package to your fiancée and she would receive it without any issues. Unfortunately that rarely happens given the fact that the postal service in Colombia is horrible.

What you need to do now that you've received your NOA2 is call the NVC about once or twice a week to find out if they received it from the USCIS. You need to speak with a rep because the automated system does not have this information for K visas, call very early in the morning or late at night before they close so you can reach a rep without waiting. If they have it, they will give you a BGT case number. Then ask them when will they be sending it to the US embassy in Colombia and based on that date, give it about 3-4 days to arrive. Once you calculate when it should be at the embassy, email them (fastest way) or call them on Wednesdays between 2pm-4pm to find out if they have it. If they say they have it, then you can tell your fiancée to scan the documents needed for packet 3 and send them via email to the embassy. Once the embassy receives packet 3, they will assign you an interview date.

The documents she has to send them are:

1. Cover letter with BGT#

2. Copy of her passport's bio page

3. Form DS-230 part 1

4. Form DS-2100

You can find form DS-230 here and form DS-2100 is in the Instruction Package found in the US Embassy in Bogotá website. This is the English version and this is the Spanish version.

Found out today our interview is Jun 17th. So excited. Does anyone know if we can pick up the visa at Domesa or do we have to wait for it through the delivery service. How long to get it in Bogota?

You can pick it up at Domesa in Bogotá. My wife picked her's up a week after the interview but she lived in Bogotá and went on her lunch break because Domesa was close to her office. I'm fairly certain it would be available in less time but she was in no rush since she wasn't leaving Bogotá right away. It did take at least three days though because we couldn't get it before I left town...

Thank you so much for this! We are still waiting on our NOA2 but I figured we could fill out the forms now. Is there sample cover letter that we can use as a template? Does it need to say anything in particular?

And with copying her passport, should she just copy the whole thing? Or literally just the bio page?

Thank you!

I just emailed the DS-2100 and DS-230 in to IVbogota@state.gov in .pdf form. I did not send in a copy of the passport. Packet 3 instructions do not ask for it. I did not bother with a cover letter. In the email I just said "Submitting Packet 3 for Case # BGT...." Worked great. They sent back and email acknowledging reciept and have my interview next month.

For deliveries in Bogotá it can take between 2-3 business days. For deliveries to other cities, it can take between 6-10 business days. And yes, the benificiary can pick up their visa at Domesa.

That's right, a cover letter and a copy of the bio page are not requested in the instructions but most people send them to make it easier for the embassy. There have been a few cases where the embassy simply says they never received anything or if they did they claim they didn't know who the forms belonged to, those type of excuses. So by sending a cover letter, which is simply your email itself saying who the forms are for and for what case, with a photocopy of the bio page of the passport of the beneficiary, you're not giving them any room for error.
