Hi everyone... :)

A lot of great info here and I have learned a lot. We are going to send packet 3 in on 3/7 and we hope to get a mid April interview. We'll see. My fiance is a concerned about her vaccinations. She doesn't have her records from childhood but she does have a card proving her tetanus shot dates (about 2 years ago) and one other vaccination I can't remember. I have read a lot of different things here about vaccinations, some people say it's good to get them before the medical, some say to wait and take whatever she has to show as proof and the doctor will determine what is necessary. I have read horror stories of how a lot of people are getting repeat vaccinations of shots they had weeks before from their own doctor in their hometown. I have also read good stories, but not many. Most of the information I read is a few years old on this site via forums. I guess I would like CURRENT info about this topic. I'm just trying to be prepared and remain informed like everyone else... anything is appreciated. If you can contribute thanks for your time!

my wife got her shots in her hometown when we went to see the embassy doctor they require all the shots over again I my wife says is it cost just about the same and it's a lot easier to use the embassy doctor

Hi how are you???

What we did was that, my husband waiting to get his shots with the doctor he had to go through with immagration. we were going to have him get all the shots in his hometown since he didnt really have much record of all the shots he has had, and thankgod we waited for the doctor in Bogota she only had him take 3 shots. so from our experience i would say wait until your finacee goes to the doctor in bogota before the interview to see what shots they ask for its better and safer that way. GOOD LUCK!!

:thumbs: When in Colombia, do as the Colombians. :bonk:

Just wait until you get to Bogota, and do what the Dr. there tells you to do.

No hurry, just wait... :rofl::ot2:

I'm with Ken and the others on this. We thought that we would save some money by having them in my fiancee's hometown but when she went for her medical the dostor said that he would have to apply them again as reinforcement. The cost in the hometown was less than the doctor's cost but we paid in the hometown and then again at the doctor's office. In this case, we ended up spending more than we needed to; but who would want to hold up the process by making a complaint to the Department of State?

This is an issue that has been going on for years. The only two doctors authorized by the US Embassy to do the medical exams in Colombia have been telling people that their vaccines are not valid because they got them before their medical appointment. Now, we all know this is all a whole bunch of BS and a way for them to get more money in their pockets but people don't have any other choice. I say that if you don't care, get the vaccines done at the doctor's office. If you're on a tight budget call the local Red Cross or other medical facilities and also call the doctors' offices to find out who gives you the best deal. Remember that the only vaccines needed for a US visa are MMR, TD and varicella, this last one is only needed if the person did not get it as a child. Also, if your SO has an EPS (health insurance) in Colombia that will cover the cost of the vaccines then of course it's best to get them there before the medical. One last thing, if you choose to get the vaccines before the medical, don't get them too far in advance. I say get them a week to two weeks before so that those damn doctors don't have an excuse to force you to get new ones.

Thank You Diana

You are always soo much help...

As you can imagine, this is rather emotional issue for us and especially for my wife.. We are somewhat desperately seeking the most expediant and reliable way to have her daughter here but at the same time accomadate the father by allowing for trips back to Colombia..

Thank soo much for your help and continuing to offer your great advise to everyone..

Kenny

Kenny,

You're very welcome. I think the best thing to do would be to have a heart to heart with the girl's father to see if he can understand why her moving to the US would be a great thing for her future. Not only will she be close to her mother, but she will also be learning a new language, will have more opportunities as far as going to a great colleges and universities and will have a great future ahead of her. She can also go visit him during summer/winter vacations so that he doesn't lose touch with her. Again, it's all about convincing him that he will not lose her at all but that he'll be doing her a great favor by letting her come to the US.
