Does anyone know, if you get the original documents back? I sent original documents to the NVC then my wife got original documents to bring to the interview. Can someone break down to me what exactly happnens at the POE (CR-1/CR-2)? thanks.

KL77,

First of all, congratulations on your visa approval! Great news.

The embassy should've given you the original documents back, if they didn't then you won't get to see them again unless you file a form with the USCIS, which can be found in their website.

Beneficiaries with a CR visa will be processed exactly the same at POE as any other immigrant visas. She will get her green card in the mail 2-7 weeks after entry and if you checked the SS box in form DS-230, she should be getting her SS card in the mail as well. If she doesn't, wait until the USCIS has entered all of her info in the system and she receives her green card before going to the SSA office to get a SSN. And that's it!

Congrats on the visa approval!

In our case, the embassy didn't return any originals at the time of the interview and we had assumed they'd be returned to us at POE but we never saw them again. We had to have her family FedEx us new originals..sad.gif

I don't know if your wife's were returned (it doesn't sound like it) but just to be on the safe side, since your wife hasn't had her POE yet, it would be best if she has originals of all her important docs before she leaves Colombia.

Hi Guys & Gals -

Vanessa & I are headed out for a long holiday weekend in Los Angeles tonight, and I was wondering if anyone in the local community might know of anything special going on in the area that might particularly interest a young Colombiana during any of the no doubt boring down time she will have while I meet up with old friends at an annual fan gathering for a TV show that I'm obsessed with but she's really not that into (it's the BBC sci-fi show "Doctor Who", for those who simply must know...) We'll be based at a hotel by LAX airport, and public transportation would have to be used for anything from Friday - Sunday as Vanessa doesn't drive yet. Monday is our designated "get out and tour together" day after the fan fest is over, and I've rented us a car for that day so we can roam freely all day and into the evening, before catching a red-eye flight home. Any suggestions from our So-Cal members of the Colombia Club?...

Hello Everyone, I just got my I130 approved last night and I am trying to prepare for the second step.

I have all original documents, apostille, in my hands (USA) and I was wondering if these have an expiration date.

Certificado Judicial

Marriage Certificate

Birth Certificate (husband-beneficiary)

Copy of his CEDULA (ID)

Biographic Passport Page

All documents are dated end on November 2010 and apostille early December...nowhere i find that they expire!

We also got the Certificado Migratorio which my husband has and it is in a sealed envelope.

I am just afraid to send the package and it will not be accepted. as for the certificado migratorio, I am not sure if by the time we go to the embassy they will ask us to get a new one and this will delay the process even further....

so, should I get new ones....? can anyone please help me.. thanks,

Hi bookcat1,

Apostilles are not necessary for any Colombian document. I believe the Certificado Judicial is valid for 12 months but I'm not sure, let's see what others have to say. Same goes for the Certificado Migratorio. As far as the other documents go, you should be ok. They do not have an expiration date but in Colombia any document that is not less than 3 months old, they consider expired. My husband got his documents ready in May and even though his interview wasn't for another 5 months, he was ok.

Also, you don't need a copy of his cédula.

Here's a list of documents you will need to send along form DS-230:

Thanks Joe. I notice in your signature that you are getting an RFE on your AOS; does it ever stop for you? I hope that it's only something minor that you can quickly correct.

Robert

another question for all my fellow colombian club members who have filed recently or know about this...is the certificado judicial that you get online official enough for NVC purposes?? It has a header with the words Certificado Judicial and gives a verification code to check online at www.certificadojudicial.gov.co for its authenticity. Will NVC view this as unofficial or is it ok?

In regards to the certificado judicial, Diana is right as always...it expires 12 months from the date you requested it.
