ryna,

The embassy usually hands back most documents, including the beneficiary's birth certificate. If they kept it in the sealed envelope, then you will need to get another copy so you can file for AOS.

The only thing you should be aware of is having the I-94 with you because you will also need to send a copy of it with the AOS packet. If you didn't get one, then you can try going back to the airport to see if they can give you another one.

Diana

Thanks Diana.

That's what I was afraid of. The embassy kept everything we gave them and the immigration officer at the POE kept everything from the envelope... We'll deal with it.

One more question on the I-94. They also kept the upper half but stamped and stapled the lower half (the departure record part) into her passport. Is this what is needed for AOS?

Thanks again for your help.

Visa in hand! (wow that was REALLY fast!)

Domesa delivered the visa to our address (in Bogota) today! It only took 3 days from the interview to deliver, not sure if its because it is the new year so they were able to process it fast or what! Regardless we are happy and are starting to look for flights to take!

arizreynolds,

If she wants to change her last name to yours all you have to do is start filling out every form with her new last name, the evidence will be your marriage certificate. The SSA won't send her a SS card because she came in with a K1 visa, they only assign numbers for CR/IR visa holders because they automatically become permanent residents after they enter the US. You need to go to their office to get one as long as she has at least two weeks left on her I-94; otherwise, you'll have to wait until she gets at least her work permit.

Back in the day we needed translations because the DOS' page requested them. They no longer need them as long as the documents submitted are in either English or the official language of the country in which application for a visa is being made.

http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3195.html

Translation Requirements

All documents not written in English, or in the official language of the country in which application for a visa is being made, must be accompanied by certified translations.

Best luck to all of you! Just remember to relax and breathe and know you all love each other very much and make sure you show it! I really believe they were watching us while we waited that long just to see how we reacted to the pressure and the wait.

We will have the POE on February 8th in Ft. Lauderdale, we then have an 8 hour layover until our flight to Chicago, can anyone here suggest any good things to do during that time in Ft. Lauderdale?
