Congratulations to SOLIL! Feels good, doesn't it?

And thanks Diana and Ariz! So nice to see you guys again around here! Yeah, we are very very happy! Our apartment is lovely and things are going pretty well!

We'll probably move to TX in a year or so, though.. that's where I was raised and I miss it there! And Cristian likes TX too! He's all into camping and hiking, etc. and Blues music and there's a lot of all that in TX. :D

Life is good!

How's everybody?

That sounds awesome! Make sure they give you the "1st Time Visit" button for him to keep. We went to Disneyland last year and I made sure I got one for my husband when I bought the tickets at the entrance. It's a bit cheesy but I love keeping things like that, especially since everything you do here is so new to them.

I hope you have a blast!!!

I am so excited he is super happy we are going like a little kid! :)It is a wondeful feeling being able to experience all this with him. Everytime i would go to Colombia i would be so excited to see andlearn new things even though i would always go with my parents it wasn't the same when Juan would should me around and show me a lot of new things i've never seen before. Now i am the one showing him around and thank god he loves Miami, if it was up to him he would be at the beach everyday. Have a good weekend!

Hell everyone! I called DOS this morning to find out if the embassy has received our petition (the paper version). The Visa Specialist told me that it has not yet been registered by the embassy as having been received. I decided to send the IV Unit an email asking about my petition. Got an automatic message pretty much saying don't bother us we're busy.

Well I took the day off to work on the house; got to get it in good shape before Victoria gets here. After working on the house all day, I checked my email and there was an email from the IV Unit telling me that they do in fact have our petition and that we can send the forms as soon as we want. Needless to say, they are already sent. I know that it's Friday night but at least they'll be there for someone to open first thing Monday morning.

I called Victoria and tried to tell her but she kept asking me "And?' before I could finish telling her each part of the story. We are both very happy. This journey is in it's final stages.

Hey, great news... Wierd that it took em so long, but sure is good that they replied and have your petition... There is still a chance for a december interview... Let us know when you get the Visa Appointment.. You should start calling the DOS/NVC on wednesday or so to check if a Interview is scheduled...

You bet I'll be doing that. Everyday that I called I kept asking myself "What would Kenny do?" Wednesday, I decided to call the embassy since it was call in day; but after they told me the same thing, I decided that I would send the email. So far so good.

Anyone have any experience buying a one-way ticket OUT OF Colombia for a Colombian and/or an American?

I'm just curious because I bought our airline tickets today, a round-trip for me and a one-way for her BUT to be able to be on the same return itinerary, I had to buy myself two one-way tickets. I noticed that the taxes on the 2-person return itinerary are much (like 4.5X(!) instead of just 2X) higher than my round trip taxes have ever been and now I'm wondering if they have charged me the departure tax at the rate for a Colombian? Maybe they are just higher in general when the flight originates in Colombia? The ticket website never asked for our nationalities. What if they collected her departure tax but assumed she is American because my address is in the US and didn't charge enough? Will they just collect the remainder at the airport? What if the taxes are too high because they assumed I am Colombian because the flight originates there? Will they refund mine if, in fact, I overpaid?

I've made this trip 7 times solo in the last year but never really thought about any of these issues before...

Tickets for flights originating in Colombia are subject to a Colombian tax that we would not see on a round-trip originiting outside of Colombia; so they are usually a little bit higher. Not sure why you had to buy 2 one-ways for yourself. In situations such as this, I would normally check out the availability, then buy the most complicated one first and then buy the simpler one afterwards. I guess that the benefit to your way is that you are both on the same record. In my way we travel like 2 strangers but arrange the seating ahead of time.

[/quote I bought a round trip ticket which is cheaper than 1 way ticket. I also bought a round trip ticket for me with no problems. I also heard that columbian exit tax they still make you pay even though you have paid your taxes already. I think this happened with ken and liedys ill see what happens Dec 10

I don't remember the particulars, but the ticket was purchased on-line through Copa.com and I had to use Leidy's Cedula # to make the purchase. The one-way ticket was a little more than the 50% you would pay on a round-trip ticket (i.e. - $700 o/w vs. $1,005 r/t), but with all of the money I subsequently spent for the :hehe: rings, :help: wedding, wedding photos, :luv: wedding gown, socks, B-) shoes, :P pedicures, :) manicures, porceline hair iron, make up (& special brushes "brochas"), :o gym clothes/shoes, the exit tax pales in comparison.:yes:

 Great to hear that plane ticket is bought and paid for, amigo! :ot2:

Thats about right, I paid a lot more in Taxes for the One-Way ticket from Medellin to San Antonio, Via Miami then I ever paid on my round trip tickets from the US... I was pretty shocked when looking at the exit tax for those tickets...

The thing I did was I used my Miles to fly down to Colombia on Continental, but wanted to fly business class on the trip returning as kind of a treat for Maritza... The Problem was that Continental would not let me get a One-Way Ticket for Maritza, So I Used my miles for only my trip to Colombia, then I purchased two Business class tickets on American through Miami.. I was surprized when I compared the Exit Tax on the Continental Flight versus the Exit Tax on the American Flight.. It was almost 3X more...
