That is great news! Leidys was surprised that it only took you one minute!

I stood in front of the CO for about 15 minutes, and the AOS interview lasted a cool 50 minutes. :bonk:

If your Embassy interview was that short, I would estimate that your AOS meeting will be just as easy. Congrats!

The worst part (besides the 15 min. Q&A) was keeping the documents in order in the large folder we were given.

How soon after a successful final K-1 interview at the embassy in Bogota (August 25th) can we expect the Domesa service to have the visa ready and waiting for us to pickup at their office in Bogota? We will be staying in a hotel in Bogota just for the interview and this visa pickup. We hope to fly directly to the US after getting the visa. My fiancee lives/lived in Barranquilla.

Thanks

Hello All..

It seems like I am now part of the Club...

26 July - USCIS approved my Petition

today, i learned that my packet has been sent to Bogota...

I have a few questions now...

Reading thru the info it appears I have a couple of options at this point..

  • Option 1 - wait for confirmation from Embassy and Package 3 to be sent to my fiancee by mail, then, complete the package requirments, return to Embassy, then wait for appointment.
  • Option 2 - Confirm Embassy has my packet from NVC, then download Packet 3, complete the requirements, send to Embassy, wait for Appointment...

If this is the case, I kinda like the idea of doing option 2, since I don't need to wait.. Effectively, If this is true, it seems I have some control over the timeline at this point..

Is this accurate?

Congratulations! You are ahead of us in the process. The options as you laid them out are as I understand them to be. Further, in Colombia with an almost non-existent postal service, going the route of Option 2 is not only prudent but almost your only choice. Your Option 2 is the route that we plan to take.

Those are all fine delivery/courier services. My comment was addressed to the governmental postal service. I remember reading that the embassy would mail the package to the beneficiary. If it is done by courier service, all the better an my comment is null. If it is done by the Colombian "postal service", my comment stands.

Sadly enought you're correct. If the embassy spent a few more dollars on a delivery service like Servientrega, then most, if not all beneficiaries would receive their packets on time. Unfortunately they don't want to spend the extra money and use the regular unreliable Colombian postal service and many either never receive their packages or receive them after their interview. So instead of wondering whether a packet was sent or if it will delivered on time and to the correct person (yeah it happens), it's best to stay a few steps ahead, download the forms from the embassy and send them to them to get an interview date.

the Embassy can make mistakes and beneficiaries also misspelling address, the problem is not only with the cheaper courier also happens with express services that promise to deliver in three days and can take more than 1 week, and it happens in USA, UK or Senegal. I just want to point out that if there are problems with mail service is not 100% courier's fault, people make mistakes but it's also easier to say that the postal service is bad and unreliable.

Fortunately today for many things we can make use of technology and take advantage, I do not understand if each embassy has its own procedures and forms online why they have to print them and many people are unaware they can do it electronically and this way save time and headaches
