oh wow thanks! i live in south Florida and there is a lot of Colombian Restaurants around here where i go to ship my boyfriend boxes when i send him a gift. i am going to call them today to ask if they ship out envelopes and how long they take. if its to long i am going to have to pay at UPS 60 dollars so its gets there fast. thanks again!

It's USPS, not UPS. :)

The 1-3 day shipping is dependent on weight. About half a pound is $57.50 online and about $64 at the post office. For a pound it's $71 online and it costs more at the post office.

If ya get moving and get it done, maybe the 3-5 days USPS solution can be right for you. Maybe if you call them, they can tell you if it takes 3, 4 or 5 days. To main cities, it's usually quicker. Good luck!

I don't understand why you need that form with your lawyer's signature. Am I missing something? All your fiancé has to do is print it on his own in Colombia, fill it out and sign it at the bank when he pays for his visa. That's it, no lawyer needed. Also, based on the posts I've read in the Colombian K1 visa thread, I believe he will need to take two unsigned forms with him to the bank, not one.

she says we need her signature because on the last page of the form it asks if someone helped us fill out the form and she wrote her name and signed it so thats the original copy we need. i didn't understand why we needed her signature because she didnt help us fill it out.we filled it out and all she did was review it. she confuses me so much sometimes. i dont know what to do now....

It sounds to me that she wants to justify her fees by signing all forms and thus making herself "responsible" for them. Like I said in the message I sent you, all your fiancé needs to do is fill out a new form in Colombia and not put her name down since she won't be helping him fill out that new form.

I have a question about payment. It says they accept credit card, but will I get shafted with the exchange rate or will they take it directly out in dollars plus the 1% international fee as is normal? If not, I'll just exchange some pesos to dollars before I go.

Thanks

I provided a copy of my W2. You are providing a copy of your 1040 so a copy of your W2 is fine.

No need to exchange to dollars because you will pay in pesos at the bank. Make sure you have 700+ mil pesos because the fee is now $350.

Here is what the Bogota Embassy site says:

In which currency must I pay any required fees at the Immigrant Visa Unit, U.S. dollars or Colombian pesos?

The choice is yours. The Consular Section cashier accepts either U.S. dollars or Colombian pesos. The exchange rate we offer, which changes periodically, is currently 2,400 pesos to the dollar. Please be advised that you should only pay money to the Consular Section cashier, regardless of what anyone else may tell you. The Consular Section cashier will issue you a receipt showing how much you paid and what services you paid for.

I am doing DCF, so I believe I will be paying with the Cashier. Either way, I tried to get a tourist visa for wife. I paid in pesos and got that crappy 2400 exchange rate. For the DCF visa, that's a difference of 175.000 pesos.

Does anyone know where I'll be paying: cashier or Banco Helm and what kind of rate I'll get with a credit card? I'd rather not exchange for dollars if I don't need to.

I think I am being misunderstood. If you pay for a visa here in Colombia with pesos, the embassy is going to make you take it hard. The visa must be paid for in dollars, so they exchange it giving you a horrible rate. At the current rate, you should pay less than 700.000 pesos, but end up paying almost 900.000 instead. I just want to know if anyone has paid with a credit card and how much it cost vs the exchange rate of the day or if it's even possible to pay with credit.
