Hey there everyone, first official post here but I've been a VJ member for nearly a year now and quietly reading over your shoulders all the time, LOL.

Although we decided to go with a lawyer so far for our own peace of mind (and she did find & fix plenty of mistakes for us so we're happy with the decision...) we have learned lots of good things by reading the forums here, particularly here in the Colombia Club.

I just got an e-mail notice today of our NOA-2 being mailed out (YIPPEEE!!!) and am strongly considering using the e-mail shortcut to the embassy in Bogota to try and get a July interview before the next 2 weeks go by and they fill all the slots, rather than just leaving it to the lawyer's own people to do in their own time. I'm sure that it must be on here somewhere, but at the moment I can't seem to find any detailed step-by-step set of instructions on exactly how to do it. Can anyone please point me in the right direction with a link or other reference?

Also, if I just got e-mailed the notice today, how long before there should be a new "BGT" case number issued at the NVC that I can call and get, because if I understand things correctly, don't I need to have that new number first in order to do the shortcut?

Thanks in advance from Dan :help:

in the consulate information page there is important info: http://www.visajourney.com/consulates/index.php?ctry=Colombia&cty=Bogota

in this stage you need to send the package 3, read the part "packet 3 contains"

you can download the pck 3 instructions here: http://bogota.usembassy.gov/root/pdfs/consular/2010/kinstructionsfeb2010.pdf

the pck 3 only contain: ds-2100 (page 4 of the instruction packet), ds-230 Part I, and a copy of the biographical page of your fiance's passport

to fill this forms you'll need your new case number (BGTxxxx), you can get it calling to NVC next week, also they can tell you when your case is sent to Bogota and then you should wait 2 weeks at least before send the pck 3(is the average time that the embassy could take to received the documents and put your case in their system)

We can all make a difference. Please recycle

I´m a new member but have been lurking for a while. My petition was approved on June 1st (took 100 days).

I´m thinking of e-mailing packet 3 like many have suggested. Do I just have to scan the 2 forms (DS 2100 and DS 230) and the biographical page on her passport and then send it to IVBogota@state.gov?

Also, when I call to attempt to get the BGT case number, I have to have the previous EAC case number from the NOA1 129F approval or am I looking for something different.

Thanks!

Congrats on receiving your NOA2.

You do not need to send the biographical page on her passport...you will need this for the interview. Yes, you will need the EAC case number, the beneficiary's name, birthdate, email, and your name and birthdate. Call the NVC early in the morning or late at night, 11:30 pm.

Just read, read, read as much as you can on the process. What I did was read as much as I could the posts written in the IR1/CR1 and NVC forums. You'll learn a lot.

Got off the phone with the NVC a few minutes ago and they'd just issued my BGT number this afternoon.

A very pleasant & helpful lady said that while they officially say two weeks for transit time, she is aware of our use of the shortcut, and she said personally that they are running much faster than that currently and so to check back as soon as next week to see it it's been shipped out yet by DHL. I said I'd call back on Monday, and she didn't see any problem with that. If she's right, I ought to be able to squeak in before the 15th for a likely shot at a July interview date, fingers crossed... :dancing:
